Meet Bessie Stringfield, the Black woman who rode a Harley solo across Jim Crow America 8 times in the 1930s and 40s. She slept on her bike when hotels turned her away, won a track race disguised as a man, carried Army dispatches in WWII and became the Motorcycle Queen of Miami.
She picked her routes by flipping a penny onto a map of America and riding wherever it landed. That’s how she ended up covering all 48 lower states, alone, through the Jim Crow South.

This is Arthur Eggers giving evidence at various stages of his trial for the murder of his wife Dorothy. He had shot her twice, cut off her hands and head and dumped her body in Waterman Canyon in the San Bernardino Mountains.
