It took me some time to pen this down. It hasn’t been easy.
Even as I write this, I still find myself struggling to accept it.
It was around 3 PM on Tuesday when we received an email about Khadim's passing. We sat at our desks in silence, unable to process what we had just read.
That day, I didn't feel like going home from office. It felt like we were all waiting for a glimpse of him in the office. Every evening, we would see him walking around the office, often walking to a nearby cafe for coffee. Somehow, a part of me still feels like he has just gone for a walk and will be back.
Just like all of us, he would sit at a desk among his employees. And somehow, that said so much about the kind of CEO he was.
Whenever I met people at networking events and mentioned Whatfix, I would often hear, "Oh, Whatfix! I've met Khadim." They would talk about how humble and approachable he was, how he listened to their ideas, offered advice, and made them feel heard.
That was his impact.
That was @KhadimBatti . He made people feel seen and heard. His words of wisdom always carried a thought that made you pause, think, analyse, and realise just how far ahead he had envisioned Whatfix. And the culture he built at Whatfix that is something I will always admire.
I remember a session with him back in 2024 when, as new hires, we had the opportunity to interact with him. Someone asked if AI would eventually take our jobs. His answer stayed with me: “AI would make our work more efficient, but it couldn’t replace us.”
I'll also remember the little things: his smile as he walked past, seeing him around the office, and at times joining us for dinner in the cafeteria.
There's another small moment I'll always remember. I had participated in the Whatfix Global Hackathon and posted a picture of our team on Twitter. Shortly after, I got a notification that Khadim had followed on Twitter. I remember being genuinely surprised. "The CEO followed me?" It said so much about how down-to-earth and humble he was, and how he never let his position create a distance between him and the people around him.
Khadim was someone who made you believe in yourself because he believed in you before you believed in yourself. He made us dream bigger.
I moved to Bangalore for Whatfix, and it became a blessing for my ambitious mind. I started dreaming bigger, believing in myself more, and seeing possibilities I hadn’t seen before.
That, perhaps, is one of the greatest things a leader can leave behind, not just a company or a culture, but people who believe they can achieve more.
I will miss seeing him around the office. I will miss the townhalls.
And somewhere...still waiting for him to come back from his walk.
His name will forever be synonymous with SaaS. His impact will live on in the people, the culture, and the dreams he inspired.
Rest in peace, Khadim.
You made us dream bigger. I hope we carry that with us.

interesting how something you build can end up making guys feel confident before their coffee date...
