Horrific. Unforgivable.

Looks like ICE doesnโt he. Itโs not a coincidence.
๐ด An Israeli soldier posted this photo of Palestinian journalist Marah Awad, blindfolded and with her hands bound, following her arrest during a pre-dawn Israeli military raid on her home in Beit Ummar, north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, on October 26.
According to her brother Hamouda Awad, Israeli soldiers questioned her about her writings on Israel, accused her of โincitement,โ and confiscated her phone and computer before taking her away. Soldiers also reportedly beat two of her brothers during the raid.
No formal charges have been publicly confirmed.

"Children were deliberately targeted by the Israeli military. Intentionally killed. Not accidentally killed. Not consequentially killed. Not collatorally killed. But intentionally killed."

In researching my new book, Requiem for Gaza, I discovered how Israel systematically targeted and killed the Palestinian professional class (such as doctors and journalists), an obvious genocidal tactic. This goal is symptomatic of Israel's larger vision for Gaza; to ethnically cleanse its population via genocide.

May those who live, work or holiday on top of this have nightmares about what lies beneath them. May they imagine the cries of the dying and may it keep them awake at night.

Decisions affecting human life, freedom, and the use of force must always remain subject to effective, informed, and responsible human oversight. For this reason, artificial intelligence must be โdisarmedโ, and I encourage the States meeting in Geneva in November to take concrete steps toward banning lethal autonomous weapons.

Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

Artists, authors, and creators are being ripped off by massive, billion-dollar companies like Open AI. This theft of proprietary information is plainly illegal, and it will devastate the American industries built upon expertise and creativity. Trumpโs DOJ is out of line in its attempt to intervene in this case, and it is badly misinformed about the purpose of copyright law and allowable exceptions for fair use. America can and should lead the world in artificial intelligence without building it on theft.

This, I think, is the point of the film.
I was invited to watch NAZA and asked to sit on Q&A panels afterwards to discuss. Here are my thoughts on what the film reveals and what it shields. The story told and the target it misses. #naza #israel electronicintifada.net/conteโฆ

โWe live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapableโbut then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.โ
During the feudal era, the greed and power of kings ruled society until the people fought backโฆโ
Ursula K. Le Guin in 2014:
โHard times are coming, when we will be wanting voices who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of beingโฆWe live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapableโbut then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.โ
During the feudal era, the greed and power of kings ruled society until the people fought back.
Now, in the capitalist era, the greed and power of billionaires rule society. Like the kings, they think their reign will last forever, but it will only last until the people rise up and change it.
Different eras, similar struggle. The struggle of the people to liberate ourselves from the greed of the ruling class and the power and wealth imbalances of top-down hierarchical societies.
As powerful and inescapable as capitalism feels, it has no power without the people and the workers who make it run! Once the people figure this out en masse the world is ours to collectively share together!
