The goal isn’t to convert the ignorant idiot doing the talking. The goal is to inform the passive bystander, people who don’t necessarily understand what’s really going on. They need someone to tell them that there are solid reasons to doubt what the idiot is saying. You are that someone. Half the time you will find that many people around you privately agree with you and they will speak out because you did. You have just given them the permission to speak. They can help make your pushback stronger. If you remain silent so will the sympathetic bystander, and the moment will slip away. Another ugly Trump seed will have been successfully planted. Those seeds take root and grow. After people hear this crap over and over they eventually start to believe it. Their brains start to believe it. If it keeps getting repeated without pushback eventually their brains accept it as the truth.
