this is why i correctly assumed ganesh is definitely not a lone 17yo who wanted to "experiment"
So just a heads up on this: There are a number of LLCs that were registered yesterday and all mysteriously scraping and creating similar sites that all have the same cache of our materials. The newest offender has yet to "load in batches", meaning they are actively making more.

I don’t believe this story at all…there is no possible way for one person to do this in 4 days by accessing Google drives. All of my podfics were on there. Like, the text version AO3 work that just listed the link on how to access the MP3’s. No one is saving a PDF/EPUB of that

i've already seen people blaming those who shared their personal files for god's sake man let's use our brains to think more than once a minute because this guy is clearly lying about where he got all this 15M fics and drafts
Replying to @PogoNR
no like they literally are trying to redirect this back onto the fandom community archivists who had backups of AO3 stuff. and it's working.

no, someone putting your fic in a google drive does not give ai the ability to access your drafts?? i know emotions are high but lets use our logic brains, gang. "ganesh" almost definitely got access to breached data. don't let them manipulate you.

Five years ago someone commented on one of my fics asking if they could record a podfic version and post it as a work inspired by. I said sure, and we took things to DMs, and now we’ve got wedding plans. AI is a soulless machine and antithetical to the fandom experience.
instead of paying 5 dollars to a scam website to listen to scraped fics of mine, message me and i will read you everything ive ever written in silly voices to make it entertaining and fun For Free

Unsurprising that nuance is dead but the website that scrapped ao3 and is trying to charge $ for fanworks is SO VASTLY DIFFERENT than fans sharing epubs and PDFs with other fans. Acting like these are equivalent is a misrepresentation and actually not helpful.

So ao3 [dot] life is a website whose domain was JUST registered today, with millions (?) of fics as audiobooks within their database. Honestly this is highly suspicious — DO NOT email this site for taking your fics down, they have no business knowing that kind of information.

Am I crazy to feel that online art spaces do not feel very...community oriented anymore? It feels like art went from this thing of wanting to know as many people as possible and do group stuff to every man for themselves and competitively trying to promote themselves over peers

please DO NOT give these people the e-mail associated with your ao3 accounts. since this is monetized and directly referencing them, it’s more likely that ao3 and their legal team themselves can work on a takedown request, or at least provide instructions on how to do it safely. DO NOT DOXX YOURSELF TO AN AI SLOP SITE.

I dunno. The Trekkies kept the fandom alive by typing in typewriters and mailing them to friends and fandom people on the down low. This isn't something people do to make money off of. Fanfic writers 90% of them do it for the love of the fandom.
This ao3 discourse is really highlighting to me that a lot of people genuinely believe “you will create and get nothing and be happy” is a sustainable model for fanfiction.

people are not going to like hearing the reason behind this "i need to get something back for contributing to fandom spaces" mindset but its capitalism

in all this, i wish smaller authors saw the opportunity those drives present. 90% of the fics drowning out your own works aren't available. there's no sort by kudos or comments or hits, there's just titles, your name, the url to your profile for later, and word of mouth

What if Pavi has represented chaos from the very beginning? I know it’s controversial, but Pavi = Vaatu and Nisha = Raava makes so much sense to me. Nisha responds to fear through control, structure, and preservation: order taken too far. Pavi responds through change, improvisation, and adaptation. When her world falls apart, she doesn’t try to restore it. She transforms and moves forward. What if Vaatu isn’t inherently evil, but simply represents chaos and change? Pavi can embody that while still being kind and heroic, just as Nisha can represent order without automatically being good. Both are necessary for balance, and that would bring Korra’s story full circle. Am I onto something, or am I reaching?

Some of us on the side of community sharing are authors. Sorry, it's a common fandom practice and I have no patience for people who say that kudos are a reward or for flouncers
y'all make it so difficult to agree with even your somewhat valid takes regarding ao3 authors because of how rude and callous you are towards them. i've never seen people be so casually dismissive of any art form as they are of fanfiction. it's genuinely demoralizing.

Nvidia intentionally crippled their $1,000 graphics cards so average consumers couldn’t use its full computing power. Why? Because they sell the exact same chip to big tech companies for $7,000+. Modders have now cracked Nvidia's software paywall, proving we were sold intentionally downgraded hardware just to protect their corporate profits. This is some bullshit. Also means people bought bigger more expensive cards than they needed to.

i think the main nuance that's missing is drives of archived work uploaded to an archive are both not wrong to make and also consented to by nature of uploading to an archive, but also it's reasonable for authors to request theirs be removed and that should be respected. NUANCE
