I received this note from a veteran official who has been a referee for hundreds of events, including UFC events, regarding the position where Moicano was stood up:
A body triangle is a dominant position that restricts the opponent鈥檚 movement and creates opportunities for submissions, particularly the rear-naked choke.
Even without strikes, hand fighting, wrist control and attempts to secure a choke are legitimate offensive activity.
Standing fighters up simply because there are no strikes unfairly removes an earned positional advantage.
If a fighter doesn鈥檛 have an answer for the position then they stay there and get out of the position when the round is finished.
