I am not surprised, nor hurt, by the personal attacks & threats I have faced for years, both online & offline.
Since I chose politics, my only focus has been on how the youth of Kashmir & the thinking minds of our society get to speak for Kashmir themselves, and how they will reclaim the space in mainstream politics which was systematically snatched from them & criminalized.
Throughout these years, after meeting people, here & there across age groups, reading & closely observing Kashmir, the harsh & unexplored truth is that the people of Kashmir have lived their lives in absolute suffocation, fear & alienation. They deserve to speak & express what is in their hearts. And if letting out their anger on someone like me gives them even a moment of relief, I will embrace it without any regret. Because silence has cost us more than criticism.
I did not choose politics for privilege or identity. I chose it for the people who grew up with fear in their bones, whose voices were choked & who were pushed to the wall before they even got a chance to speak. In this entire process, there were countless times when the conditions forced me to give up. My academic career was dismantled, my family was disturbed, friends walked away, the hopes of loved ones were lost and every single day, I lived with the weight that something was about to happen.
But against all odds, I chose to stay, keeping it in my heart. After all, what is the worth of a life if it is not spent fighting for the people of my motherland? For a generation of Kashmiris who inherited a turmoil they never chose, and who still wake up every morning holding on to the hope of simply living with dignity, the way people in other parts of the world do.
This fight is not mine. It is ours, it is collective. For every young person with a dream to contribute & heal the people who have suffered immensely.

Nearly eight decades after accession, Kashmir remains one of the most heavily militarised regions in the world. Security forces guard its roads, towns and villages, and their presence permeates everyday life. While military deployments along international borders are intended to guard against external threats, the extraordinary security presence within Kashmir is experienced by many of its inhabitants as a constant reminder that they are themselves treated as potential threats and live under a constant cloud of suspicion.

A merit massacre by denying EWS certificates predominantly to Kashmiri students is ongoing at breakneck speed under the nose of an indifferent NC government.
Rightful candidates from Kashmir are being deliberately rejected on frivolous grounds. If you are someone who has applied for EWS only to be denied the certificate please get in touch here.
For the last 2 years, the atmosphere around the Cabinet expansion by the NC was created in such a way that it felt like once it is done, half of Kashmir's problems would be solved. And today, what did we get:
Ali Mohd Sagar: 68+ years old.
Saifullah Mir: 65+ years old.
Shameema Firdous: 60+ years old.
Altaf Kaloo: 55+ years old.
How can almost an entire Cabinet, who have crossed the retirement age, be considered wise enough to be Ministers to decide the future of a generation they have no connection with? How can they understand challenges they have never lived and never felt?
If a 27 to 31-year-old has the potential to clear the country's toughest exam & is trusted to run the entire civil & police administration of a district, why shouldn't he be in the Assembly using all his potential, knowledge & energy for his own people?
Why should that place be filled with people old enough that the Govt itself has declared retired from service? How can they become the decision-makers for our future?
You trust the youth to crack UPSC, JKPSC, IIT and NEET. You trust them to hold the gun at the border & the pen in the DC office. But you exclude them from the decision making. For how long?
At a time when nearly 70% of J&K's population is youth, and when AI & robotics are redefining the very concepts of livelihood, education, jobs, security and human relationships, the entire Cabinet has been handed over to old lot.
Can they understand the trauma of youth who are being systematically excluded from all institutions because of an unjust reservation policy?
Can they understand the depression and anxiety of students across all fields spending 10 hours a day inside libraries for years with no outcome? The humiliation of exam scams, years wasted waiting for recruitment lists, and interviews that never come?
Can they feel the pain of a boy or a girl who desperately wants to live and work here, but is forced to leave home for a job in Delhi or Dubai just so that his family can eat?
Can they understand the fear of an AI-driven world where degrees are useless without skills, while 80% of our education is still traditional and outdated?
These are young people's battles & only the youth understand the gravity of these issues. Old energy can’t give new answers. If Kashmir's future is youth, why is there no youth in power?

IN India, every person is presumed innocent till proven guilty. This is the basis of criminal jurisprudence. When a person faces trial, the presumption of innocence attaches to him and he would naturally be entitled to bail. Thus, the well-known principle "bail, not jail, is the rule."

Decoding FAROOQ ABDULLAH’s Pro-Pakistan Statement:
For the first time, Farooq Abdullah is openly reviving and embracing the vocabulary of Syed Ali Shah Geelani by saying, "Our neighbour (Pakistan) is protecting Kashmir by raising our issue worldwide. Otherwise, Delhi's intentions are not good."
What he has said is deliberate, calculated & strategic. With just one statement, he ignites pro-Pakistan sentiment in entire Kashmir. He knows this one statement will go viral in every mohalla and every WhatsApp group, discussion will restart and youth will get provoked against India, until the anger bursts like lava on the streets. And he knows exactly what comes next. In response, Delhi will get a reason to crack down with full might. More raids. More torture. More profiling. More FIRs. More youth in jails. More alienation. More suffocation. This is the NC's old playbook and its ultimate bargaining chip because only in this circle can they survive.
This is how the NC has always operated. The moment they feel Delhi isn't listening to their demands, they borrow Geelani's vocabulary, dig up buried ghosts and deliberately set a narrative to charge the people against Delhi. They play Geelani when they are out of power, and they play Jagmohan when they are in power.
And then comes the final step of this bloodbath. This is their masterstroke. Just like Sheikh Abdullah did in 1975, Farooq Abdullah did in 1987 & 1996 and Omar Abdullah did in 2009 & 2024— they all take the flight to Delhi and present themselves as the only saviours who can keep Kashmir with India and fight radicals and Islamists. They trade our blood & pain for a chair. Whether it is 1975, 1986, 1996, 2009 or 2024 the script is the same, only the face has changed. This betrayal has been going on for decades, and they are still betting on the same dirty bargain.
PS: Both Delhi needs to understand this game before going harsh on people of Kashmir collectively. We have already paid for their power with our graveyards for decades. For God's sake, do not make the youth of Kashmir fodder again.
The reality is that when Kashmir is at peace, Farooq and Omar Abdullah become irrelevant. They have nothing to offer. They feed on conflict, and no one has benefited from conflict more than them. In their entire business, which they call politics, the raw material is the blood and future of Kashmiri youth, and all the profit goes straight to their family in Gupkar.

Visiting mosques in Muslim countries, praising their grandeur and projecting respect for Islamic sentiments and heritage. Yet at home, a 120 year old heritage mosque near the Prime Minister’s residence faces an eviction notice threatening its very existence. This glaring contradiction between admiration for mosques abroad and blatant disregard for the religious sentiments of India’s own Muslim community is mind boggling, to say the least.
Congratulations to the MBBS interns & let’s take a lesson from the first success story of peaceful struggle in J&K post the 2024 elections.
The hike in MBBS stipend from 12,300 to 25,000 is a victory for everyone who feels that their pain falls on deaf ears. It has proved that when people stand together & unity becomes discipline, even the most arrogant Govt has to kneel.
This victory belongs to every intern who joined the peaceful protest despite threats, to everyone who stood by them, and even to those whose faith was shattered that nothing positive will ever come out in Kashmir.
Let this be the beginning of reclaiming our rights. From the unjust Reservation policy to unemployment, to a broken education system, to the right to a dignified life, we will fight & we will win. In Sha Allah!
Long live student unity. Long live the struggle. Long live Kashmir!

Sharjeel stands trial, but the verdict lands on @ShekharGupta
1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national.
2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights.
3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right.
4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else.
5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective:
Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not

A Delhi–Srinagar sleeper bus was attacked with bricks in Kurukshetra while passengers slept. An elderly Kashmiri was left bleeding. Disturbingly, reports suggest police targeted passengers instead of the attackers.

It was heartwarming to witness the people of J&K coming together & standing up against the humiliation of KAS officer Beenish Wani. Wish our CM @OmarAbdullah had even half the spine that the girl showed, Kashmir wouldn’t be living this daily humiliation as if it were our destiny.
Omar Abdullah has set a very dangerous precedent time & again by entrenching himself as a victim before the very people who gave him an absolute mandate to be their voice, to resist & fight. What more people need to do? But what we are seeing is that the value & glory of the CM’s chair in J&K is fading under his leadership.
I am not writing this as someone from the opposition of NC, but as a common Kashmiri who feels the last agency of the people is being delegitimised. When the chair that is meant to be the custodian of our collective rights, dignity & political existence is reduced to helplessness and becomes lighter than any bureaucratic institution, then the purpose of an elected government itself ceases to exist.
The response from the last 2 days by the people of J&K wasn’t just because one officer was humiliated. It was a verdict against the everyday indignity, disempowerment & bureaucratic occupation that Kashmir has been subjected to since 2019. It was the verdict of an alive society whose every agency has been taken away, yet refuses to bow.
Now if the CM with an absolute majority can’t even hold one arrogant officer accountable for abusing a daughter of the soil and make an example out of him, how can he lead Kashmir to a dignified future?

A day after a senior official misbehaved with a J&K Administrative Service officer, the government issues a conduct order and empowers administrative secretaries and HODs to enforce it. We sought action against a top official, a Commissioner Secretary. Instead, the government is shooting the messenger, using the same ranks to build a narrative of indiscipline against juniors who spoke up.
This is Beenish Wani, KAS officer, who was abused & humiliated by Rajeev Ranjan, an IAS officer. Let her be the example to us that shows how to live:
When power becomes abusive & arrogant, you don't break & bow, you roar: “GO TO HELL.”

‘You are bloody shit, I can always talk to you like this’ - Rajeev Ranjan IAS officer abusing & threatening a lady KAS officer.
How dare you use such derogatory demeaning language? Take your god complex & dirty slurs elsewhere. We won’t tolerate this in Kashmir.
Since 2019 KAS & competent Kashmiri IAS officers are deliberately being elbowed out. There is a concerted effort to undermine local officers both in administration & police. Thereby making them subservient to outside officers lording over them.
@CM_JnK @manojsinha_ Decency demands this man be suspended immediately. You are quick to fire Kashmiri employees. Hope you use the same yardstick here
This story in @the_hindu has stripped naked the entire SIR exercise. What is happening in the name of SIR is a blueprint for making Muslims invisible in this democracy. The crux is terrifying & clear:
For every 1,000 Muslim electors, 318 were flagged for logical discrepancies vs 197 per 1,000 for non-Muslims. And what is more shocking is that 30% of all large family cases branded as suspicious are Muslims. It is a chargesheet against this democracy.
Let that sink in. Muslims are 13 in 100 on the list, but we are 30 in 100 on the target list.
And the most dangerous part? No BLO or ERO is making this decision, but a centralised, faceless software, ERONET, sitting inside the Election Commission's office. This is the systematic, software-driven erasure where a code is deciding which Indian is a legitimate voter, and it looks like the algorithm has learned to find Muslim names and Muslim families suspicious.

At Madrasa Abdullah Bin Abbas in Chersoo, Pulwama, we met more than 20 children who live with hearing, speech or visual impairments. Many of them are memorising the Holy Quran, and they are still keeping up with their worldly studies.
We went to offer encouragement. We came away humbled. Watching them, we saw that determination does not wait for ideal conditions, and that faith can carry a heart further than we imagine. In their quiet patience and steady effort, these little ones taught us lessons in courage and perseverance that words can hardly hold. May Allah accept their Hifz and shower them with His endless mercy. May He reward their teachers, who guide them each day with such love, patience and dedication.
The tale of leadership of 2 protests in India:
Anti-CAA (2019-20) Anti-ECI/SIR (2026)
Umar Khalid Abhijeet Dipke
Sharjeel Imam Saurav Das
Gulfisha Fatima Neha Bohra
Safoora Zargar Ratna Singh
Shifa-ur-Rehman Ashutosh Ranka
Today, the protests happening in Delhi led by Abhijeet, Neha, Saurav, etc is an extension of the same resistance that was first lit & led by Umar, Gulfisha, Sharjeel, etc in Shaheen Bagh. But the difference in how the two were treated is heartbreaking.
What is being fought for at Jantar Mantar today, the people in Shaheen Bagh, AMU & Jamia were fighting for almost the same in 2019-20. But how is it that the pain of Jantar Mantar becomes the conscience of the nation, while the pain & tears of Shaheen Bagh, AMU, Jamia are buried, criminalised & jailed in silence?
When Abhijeet, Neha, Saurav & others were touched, the entire civil society, media & political ecosystem erupts in one voice. Editorials are written, debates are held, and they are hailed as defenders of democracy & the future of the nation.
But when students were lathi-charged inside AMU & Jamia, when Shaheen Bagh was met with brute force & young activists were branded as anti-nationals & thrown into jails to rot for years without trial, there was ominous silence. No political party called for a protest, no studio held a debate that democracy was in danger. Instead, the same media that is defending Jantar Mantar today presented them as anti-nationals.
We are celebrating Jantar Mantar today, but we abandoned the daughters & sons of our nation when they were fighting for what is being fought today in 2019 at Shaheen Bagh.
History may remember that in 2026 all opposition parties assembled together to stand with student activists to save democracy, but it will never forget that in 2019 they closed their eyes & ears and let poor Muslim students pay the price for saving that same democracy.

In the name of development, J&K’s orchards and agricultural land are being opened up for commercial high rises, even as experts warn of catastrophic seismic and liquefaction risks. This is not development. It is a dangerous betrayal of our land, our food security and our people’s lives. Who will take responsibility when this reckless experiment turns into a disaster?
We opposed the new laws brought in by the J&K government, and I will say why again. They are calling it ease of doing business. Look at what it actually does. Shops and commercial activity can now come up inside residential areas. Only Red and Orange category industries and a few heavy activities like storage, freight, night clubs and liquor shops are kept out. Everything else can open next to your house.
A residential building up to 24 metres, nearly eight storeys and 5,000 square metres, can be built without any FAR or coverage limit. All it needs is a certificate from a consultant the government has approved. Malls of the same size can come up without any government approval at all.
Think about what that means in Kashmir. We lived through the 2014 floods. We know what happens when drains choke and wetlands and floodplains are built over. These laws make that risk bigger. They put whole neighbourhoods, our environment and our flood protection in danger.
Who will answer when a quiet lane becomes a commercial block overnight? Who checks the person who signs the certificate? A signed paper is not oversight.
Investment is welcome, but not at the cost of people's homes and safety. Planning rules are there to protect us. Remove them, and we pay for it the next time the water rises.
