Banni Saar , By two coffeege hogoNa It was a ritual for Rajesha. The only days he missed it were when he was travelling to his hometown, a rare occasion. For 8 long years, he sat in the same place. He faced the wall, leaving the seat facing him empty. He knew everyone around as much as the owner of Varadaraja tiffins and coffee bar, a small thindi restaurant in the neighbourhood. The regulars on the benches outside reading newspapers and sipping on their 2nd coffee of the morning, “post their walk” knew when he would come every day. The waiters, the owner, everyone around the place knew. +

The inspector studied the notebook for the next few days. He went to his boss who had a love for by two coffees and a dippu . Jeevan ordered from the darshini across the street and started talking about the case of the checked shirt businessman who was killed a few weeks ago. Jeevan requested access to the central records room. He was shocked to notice that on the dates when someone won the bet at the paanwalla, there was a death somewhere in South Bengaluru. +

He went the next morning to the restaurant and asked Rajesha to accompany him for an enquiry. At the police station Rajesha said his brother had a big fight about 8 years ago. His brother was spreading negative news about the “New Sagar” darshini that had opened enroute to Varadharaja. The brother said the coffee powder used in the darshini had chemicals which were harmful. The man with the checked shirt who met Rajesha was the owner of the “New sagar” darshini. Jeevan checked the dates against the death records. As suspected, the names led back to the coffee masters at New Sagar. Rajesha  looked up towards his brother and smiled as he sat handcuffed in a police jeep. FIN. #shortstory #Bengaluru #rituals

If you're from/have a vote in Bengaluru in any district, check out eci-lookup.vercel.app I made it for a super easy look up by your voter-id instead of having to download 40 PDFs after having to know your district and assembly constituency etc.etc . 😊 Will do more soon.
