Dispatch: Greenland Energy Company holds the only grandfathered oil licence in Greenland. An independent engineering report puts the Jameson Land basin at up to 13 billion barrels recoverable. Simple onshore vertical wells, breakeven near $25 a barrel against $65 in the Permian. First well in 2027. @GL_Energy_Co (Ad)
🇺🇸🇬🇱🇩🇰 Trump just promised “massive” oil drilling in Greenland... and the one company holding the license has been waiting 40 YEARS for this moment
While the Strait of Hormuz chokes off barrels by the million, an independent engineering report puts Greenland’s Jameson Land basin at up to 13 billion barrels of recoverable oil, the same size as Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay.
Robert Price, chief executive of Greenland Energy, the only company with a grandfathered oil license on the island, says the September security deal with Denmark finally gave investors the certainty they needed:
“It allows us to be able to deploy capital for a long period of time, knowing that Greenland is going to be secure.”
Robert says ARCO spent a quarter billion dollars mapping the basin in the 1980s; the effort was temporarily suspended only because oil prices crashed. The crude quality matches the North Sea light sweet grade that European refineries already run, and simple onshore vertical wells could put breakeven near $25 a barrel against $65 in the Permian.
The first well goes down in 2027.
If it hits, Europe gets a supply line with no Hormuz, no Houthis and no Russian pipeline attached, and it’s an American company holding the keys.
