Kyler's efforts to force feed Marv was, just as I predicted when the Cardinals drafted him into a RB/TE 12/13 personnel heavy system that was not built to feature him as a #1 option, was often to the detriment of the team. Think about this --- with Kyler throwing to Marv --- 82 receptions on 148 targets (for a paltry 55.4%), By contrast, Puka Nacua's career catch percentage with the Rams is 72.1%. Amon-Ra St. Brown's is 73.6%. Jaxon Smith-Njigba's is 72.0%. Number 1 WRs reward their teams for high numbers of targets. Fact is, Marv does not get open as often and he's not as versatile, the way #1 guys are these days. At this point still thinking that Marv is a #1 guy is pure make-believe.

Actually, yes, bro, because Will Johnson is at his best when he can keep everything in front of him while reading the QB's eyes and then making breaks on the football. His weakness is in man-to-man coverage, where it forces him to take his eyes off the QB and have to try to recover with less than average speed. Playing zone as a Cover 2 safety would give him the freedom of not having to play man coverage and would put him in the best position to succeed on a greater number of snaps.

This play exemplifies why Will Johnson's most suitable position in the NFL could very well be as a Cover 2 safety.

Man, got to feel bad for Will Johnson. He made a concerted effort to make more tackles in this game, something he knows the consistency of which has been a question mark about him going back to his last year at Michigan. But got to also feel bad that he came to a defense that does not teach the fundamentals of tackling in a professional manner. I argued this last week, and I will keep saying it until it happens. The Cardinals should motion Marv into the slot area and have him run mesh crossers and cross corners. At times they could bootleg and waggle while he's motoring across into the hash area. Then they should motion him across the formation and throw to him on quick outs and wheel routes. In the redzone, he excels on fades, back shoulders (using his frame as a shield), quick slants and back line digs. Gettin Marv the ball would make everyone in the offense better. LFG. Rev up the Maserati and turn him loose.
