Today's road trip to southern Arizona... first stop, DM41 south of Tucson. Then a quick stop in DM42 between Phoenix & Tucson on the way home.

My logs from today's trip to DM41 (one wet SO-50 pass) & DM42 (one dry SO-50 pass, before filling the car's fuel tank & finishing my drive home) are in LOTW. Thanks for the contacts!

Tucson had more rain & less visibility compared to around Phoenix earlier today. Saw a Mustang stuck in retaining cables in I-10 median north of Tucson after an apparent spinout, also saw a Toyota pickup on its roof in I-19 median south of Tucson. Crazy!

Fuel prices in Eloy AZ, halfway between Phoenix & Tucson near I-8/I-10 junction... 87 unleaded was almost $1/gallon cheaper than stations near my house (and 25 to 40 cents/gallon cheaper than stations near freeways around Tucson).

While in the Bay Area, N6UTC & I drove down to Santa Cruz after Pacificon wrapped up on Sunday 18 October 2026. CM86 is a mostly wet grid, and we went to a park to work an SO-50 pass. I operated from my car, & N6UTC went to a table across the park from me with his gear.

Using my Sony ICD-PX470 connected to ID-5200's SP1 speaker jack to record audio into 128kbps MP3s had better pics with QSSTV than the radio's 8k WAV files written to radio's microSD card. Before running them through QSSTV, I had to convert them to 48k WAVs.
