Angel Reese has a real DPOY case!!! She’s averaging 12.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals a game, and Atlanta’s defense is nearly 13 points better per 100 possessions when she’s on the floor. The biggest thing with Angel is she ends possessions. A stop isn’t a stop if you force a miss and give the offense another chance. Nobody controls the glass like she does. She already broke the single-season rebounding record and had a WNBA-record 26 rebounds in one game. She can switch, create turnovers, defend bigger players and then actually finish the possession by getting the rebound. DPOY shouldn’t just be about who blocks the most shots. If we’re talking overall defensive impact, Angel Reese belongs right in the middle of that conversation.
Angel Reese as a primary defender vs the Top forwards this season: 22/59 (37%) (-16%rFG) 13 TOVs 4 BLKs 97.6 DRTG

Angel Reese must keep taking the open, in rhythm three in Game 7 even after a miss. She’s 5-of-13 (38.5%) in the Finals, but the value goes beyond makes: it pulls her defender out, opens driving lanes and keeps Atlanta’s offense moving. Those are game flow shots.

Put together a video of Angel's 3pt attempts from this game. The only one I really dont like is the late shot clock but that wasnt her fault she had to shoot it. I've looked at all the attempts and given a (subjective) grade based on shot quality 1. Open "hesistated" miss - A 2. Open rushed miss - B 3. Contested made - C (wow) 🔥🔥🔥🔥 4. Contested missed late shot clock - D (not her fault) 5. Open late contested - A 6. Open late contested - B (I think Rhyne coulda held LA a lil more by one more dribble) still good pass 7. Open made - A (maybe a play call?) 8. Open contested - B All in all I'm not mad at her for shooting . Kiah Stokes only played 20 mins cause she tired today and couldn't get out quick enough to contest her 3s and defend the paint at the same time. Her shooting 3s creates opportunities for others throughout the game. Keep shooting Angel especially if you're open! Rest of the team should eat like today. Dream are still undefeated when you make a 3💯💯💯🫶
