Obama now denies the carefully documented reality that Jews have maintained a presence in their homeland for thousands of years. Some of those pesky Jews stayed glued to their homeland persistently.
And the Jews who came back home from Europe PAID FOR THE LAND they purchased from the Ottomans, who were the landowners when the Jews moved back home. Check the land records. Facts matter.
The “Palestinians” are a loose group of various Arabs, many of whom are there because their grandparents migrated to the region for work. They were not Ottoman Turks and did not own the land on which Jews live today. The very few who did own land but abandoned it in favor of war against the Jewish state in 1948 relinquished their rights to the land with the WAR THEY WAGED. That’s the price of starting a war.
So no, Obama isn’t right that Arabs “just want their land back.” It’s not theirs by any stretch of the imagination. And while we’re at it, let’s discuss how Arabs came to the region in the first place. It’s that conquest and colonialism thing that Obama appears to frown on when white people do it. But I digress.

Here's the darkest truth.
Many of my fellow Democrats can't look closely at the Israel situation because it requires you to consider politically inconvenient truths you can't voice to the NPR pledge mug crowd.
✅ A lot of Muslims believe insane conspiracy theories about Jews and are bigots
✅ The Palestinians will continue to try to annihilate Israel regardless of what Israelis do
✅ Israel had a responsibility to its own citizens to prevent another October 7th. It may be distasteful to see the horrific images of war, but that's the reality of war
✅ America is letting scores of people into the country with beliefs exactly like Hamas. This is bad public policy for all Americans, not just Jews.
I did not enjoy having my eyes opened up on any of these things. I understand they make me socially radioactive to a lot of people that have never run from an incoming missile into a bomb shelter.
But it doesn't make them less true.
And you have to actually go to Israel to understand it.
When I was last in Area B of the West Bank, I was being escorted by a former IDF officer. We rounded a corner, and he puts his hand out ordering me to turn around. I look up and across the security fence, Arabs with guns are staring at us.
It's so easy for Americans to whine about this situation when they've never stopped for lunch next to soldiers patrolling for suicide bombers.
Republicans are very bad at governing, but they do understand that bad people exist in the world and sometimes you have to defend yourself. Until Democrats can grasp this simple truth, our analysis of Israel will continue to be dead wrong.

"Goebbels had blood on his hands. He is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. Not just Jews, but also people of the same skin color as mine."
Nobel Prize winner Navi Pillay was offended when Israel's foreign ministry said Goebbels is "applauding from hell" because she won the prize.
She was so offended that she severely undercounted the number of deaths in the Holocaust (it was 6 million, not thousands).
She also tried to universalize Nazi ideology, the central tenet of which was exterminating all Jews worldwide.
Why would someone with such twisted views about Jews and antisemitism be given a Nobel Prize?

Obama: Israel "has lost the moral high ground in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
Ah, yes, because according to @BarackObama, the people with the “moral high ground” are those who kidnapped and murdered babies, who raped and tortured civilians in their homes, and who slaughtered raped and kidnapped hundreds at a music festival…all on a Jewish holiday of course.
If that’s what you think the moral high ground is, thank God you are no longer President.

I think non-Jewish Canadians know this is happening and are fine with it. Jews in the diaspora are entering a new/old world. It is the world our great-grandparents knew well, but is a foreign dimension to us.
It is a world where the physical abuse and intimidation of Jews is considered morally appropriate and justified by the majority societies in which we live.
In that world, which is not quite here yet but fast approaching, no one is going to come to help us. The authorities will not protect us, because they won’t see anything wrong with what’s happening. In the world that approaches, by common, unspoken majority agreement, universal values that protect everyone else don’t apply to Jews.
This is the world Israel was created for, that the early Zionists experienced first-hand, and knew would come again. It is hard for us to accept, because we truly believed that Canada, Austalia, Britain, the US, and France were different and better than places like 20th century Eastern Europe, Russia, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria, where Jews were murdered and expelled en masse with the broad popular agreement and support of the societies where Jews had lived for centuries.
But it turns out, they’re not different, and tbey’re not better. It just took them a little longer to get to the same place.
The Jews are returning to history.

Every time someone says "1948," we only get half the story. So here's the whole thing.
In November 1947, the UN voted to divide the land into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The UN didn't give the Jews a country. It recognized a people with 3,000 years of roots in the land, who had been promised a home since 1917.
The Jews got a small, fragmented territory, and Jerusalem wasn't even part of it. They said yes anyway. The Arab leaders said no. The day after the vote, Jewish buses were attacked, and the country slid into war.
And to those who say Israel stole a country.
There was no Palestinian state to steal from. The land had been ruled by the Ottomans for 400 years and then by the British. Israel got its share through the UN. The rest came from a war the other side started.
On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence. The next day, five Arab armies invaded from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. The goal wasn't a Palestinian state. The goal was that there would be no Jewish state.
Israel had no real army and barely any weapons, and many of its soldiers were Holocaust survivors who had come ashore only months earlier. They won because the alternative was to die.
Yes, around 700,000 Palestinians lost their homes in that war. Some were expelled by Israeli forces. That's documented, and it shouldn't be denied. Others fled the fighting, and some were told by their own leaders to leave their villages until the Arab armies had won. They didn't.
But there was another expulsion nobody talks about.
Around 850,000 Jews were driven out or pushed out of Arab countries like Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and Morocco. Families who had lived there for centuries lost everything. The Jews of Jerusalem's Old City were expelled by Jordan.
Israel took them in and gave them new lives.
The Arab countries did the opposite with the Palestinians.
They kept them in camps and in refugee status that is now passed down to the fourth generation, so today there are nearly six million registered refugees.
In Lebanon, they're still barred from a long list of professions. And from 1948 to 1967, Jordan held the West Bank and Egypt held Gaza. Neither of them created a Palestinian state. They could have done it at any time.
Israel took in refugees, drained swamps, and built a beautiful country with no oil and enemies on every border.
The Palestinian leaders were offered the same chance, and they chose war instead. Imagine what could have been built if they had said yes.
The roughly 160,000 Arabs who stayed in Israel became Israeli citizens. Today they number around two million, with the right to vote, their own parties, and seats in parliament.
So when someone says Israel was built on expulsion, remember the whole picture. The Palestinians were offered a state before Israel even existed. The Arab side chose war. Israel defended itself.
Israel didn't start that war. It just refused to lose it.

Meanwhile they run defense for actual jihadists and ignore the Muslim slave trade that still exists today.

This is a clip from my talk at Harvard University, where I demonstrated just how isolating and disempowering the hijab and niqab can be.
On the rare occasions Muslim women are allowed to leave their fundamentalist homes, they are forced to interact with the world through a veil of isolation - even expected to hide their voices from “strange” men.
And yet, many in the West insist the niqab and hijab are apparently “empowering”.
Just one day inside this body bag would undoubtedly change their minds.

I'm tired of being told that, to be a progressive, I now must swear allegiance to crazy ideas.
I'm a strong Democrat, with a winning bipartisan track record. I'm rooted in progressive ideals and policies: criminal justice reform, Green New Deal, Medicare for All, free education, clean air and water. These are ideas I have fought for my entire adult life.
But some people in groups like the DSA are pushing an agenda FAR outside those ideals. Supporting Hamas is not progressive. "No police, no prisons, no borders" is not progressive. Celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians is not progressive. These ideas are REGRESSIVE.
If there were no police or prisons, if anyone in your neighborhood could do whatever they wanted, while politicians cheered on terror groups — would that represent PROGRESS to you? No, that would be a step back. Those are REGRESSIVE ideas.
On the other hand, if everybody could see a doctor when they got sick, get a good, free education and breathe clean air — would that represent progress? Yes. Those are PROGRESSIVE ideas.
They are NOT the same thing. And the difference matters.
Some defend the far left by claiming they only want Nordic-style social democracy. If that were true, I might applaud them. I want those policies, too! But what does universal healthcare have to do with Hamas? With abolishing all law enforcement? With erasing all borders? With treating every wealthy person as a villain? Ideas matter. And these are terrible ideas.
Right now, extremists are trying to sneak backwards proposals into our party, hoping mainstream Democrats are too frustrated with MAGA and the Democratic Party establishment to notice.
But we see you.
Yes, we want our Democratic Party to be a big tent. But we don’t need "party poopers. So STOP pooping in the punch bowl — and telling us the turds are ice cubes.
They aren't. And we are smart enough to know the difference. 💩
