A few young players, including Charlie Cerrato, will be playing in their first preseason game with the #Canes tonight. He'll be doing so against some of the NHL's best, like Barkov, the Tkachuks, and more. "I think stepping out there at the start of warmups will be a little shocking. It'll be cool though. This is what it's all about. I'm looking forward to going out there and proving it against guys that are Stanley Cup Champs and really good players in the league."

As expected, Rod Brind'Amour says the plan is to take a youthful roster to Florida tomorrow for the exhibition opener. "A lot of the young guys are going to play these first few [preseason] games, just to kind of see what we have. Then we'll kind of ramp it up near the end."

Limited to just nine NHL games last season, Pyotr Kochetkov is focused on being available as he enters a contract year. After a pair of surgeries, he feels "strong" and "ready to play." “I'm excited... I feel good." The 27-year-old led the #Canes with 47 starts two years ago.

No changes for Group C2, as they skate at Lane Arena. I'm not putting a ton of weight on it, especially given some of the additional options they have available at the position (Jaaska, Robidas), but Gleb Trikozov down the middle is interesting. One of the biggest questions entering #Canes camp was who would fill a position often held by Seth Jarvis. For at least the first two days, Eric Robinson is the answer. His mindset on the opportunity? "Don't change anything." "I know what can make me a factor in games and what my game is. No matter who my linemates are, or whatever spot you want to say it is in the lineup, I've got to do the same thing and bring the same things." The undrafted 31-year-old led Carolina in goals during the Eastern Conference Final.

"There’s always something to talk about with the Canes. They’re never boring. They’ll probably be big-game hunting again ahead of the trade deadline. They smell an opportunity to repeat, and that’s a realistic notion, to be sure." 😊

Jordan Staal on signing his extension — "I've had so much fun with this group and everything we've built here. When I won in Pittsburgh, all I could think about was wanting to win again. When you win it a second time, you want to win it again. All I'm focused on now is being the best I can be for this group and chip in any way I can. I'm going to do that for two more strong years."

As has been the case during every #Canes training camp under Rod Brind'Amour, today's sessions ended with some hard skating. "That'll make you forget about the Stanley Cup," Jordan Martinook directed toward the media as he left the ice. Brind'Amour said that's how it should be. "We're on a new journey, right? It started with day one, today. That's exactly what we kind of need to hear."

Seth Jarvis says the last time he checked, he was "a little ahead of schedule" as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. "I'll just keep rehabbing as hard as I can. It's been a long grind, but I can kind of start to see the light at the end of the tunnel."

Rod Brind'Amour affirmed that Jarvis "looks good and is skating well," but also said, "(The medical staff) is not going to rush him back." "When he's ready, he'll let us know. We'll get him in there as soon as we can."
