Citizen Science Month is already making waves 🌍 As of April 9, 791,655 Acts of Science have been logged...and we’re just getting started. The goal: 2.50 million Acts of Science. Small actions, big impact. Want to join in? Join an Acts of Science: Connected event—live, guided sessions where scientists walk you through real research step by step. No experience needed. Join from anywhere. Stay for a few minutes or the full session. Upcoming events: • April 10 (TOMORROW!) – Transcribe Civil War records with the @smithsonian Transcription Center • April 16 – Move Alzheimer’s research forward with Stall Catchers • April 22 (Earth Day!) – Identify wildlife with Snapshot Wisconsin (@WDNR @the_zooniverse) • April 29 – Classify space images with @DoNASAScience @NASA's @VRubinObs Observatory Comet Catchers Prefer to participate anytime? There’s something for everyone, including these featured opportunities: 🐾 @darwinsarkfnd – Turn your pet into a research partner for Pet Day (April 11) 🦴 @WeDigBio aka Worldwide Engagement for Digitizing Biocollections – Help digitize museum specimens (through April 12) 🌌 Dark Sky, Safer Fly – Contribute night sky and wildlife observations with projects including @GLOBEatNight, @Team_eBird, and @inaturalist (April 13–20) 🌧️ @CoCoRaHS – Track precipitation and support weather science Report your Acts of Science to earn prizes (including a free @newscientist subscription 👀), or contribute through SciStarter-affiliated projects to be featured on the Wall of Fame. Anyone can participate. Every act counts. Let’s keep it going. 🚀 👉 Read our full newsletter for a round-up of ideas to get involved: conta.cc/4bVVo9t #CitizenScienceMonth #actsofscience #CitSciMonth

April is Citizen Science Month — and we’re going live. Acts of Science: Connected is a weekly series of guided Zoom events where anyone can contribute to real scientific research, together. What’s an Act of Science? One measurable contribution to research. Classifying an image. Transcribing a document. Identifying a species. Spotting a comet. Every click counts. This April, we’re working toward 2.50 MILLION Acts of Science to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Here’s what’s coming up: April 2 — Mars weather with NASA scientists (@DoNASAScience) April 10 — Transcribe Reconstruction-era records (@smithsonian) April 16 — Play Stall Catchers for Alzheimer’s research (@SciCatchers) April 22 — Classify wildlife for Earth Day (@WDNR) April 29 — Help discover comets (@the_zooniverse) Multiple time slots. All live on Zoom. Join for as much or as little as you’d like. Plus, REPORT your Act of Science and receive a free year-long digital subscription to @newscientist! Science doesn’t just happen in labs. It works better when we show up. Register for an event. Make your Act of Science count. Presented by SciStarter. Save your spot: SciStarter.org/Connected #ActsofScience #CitSciMonth

🌱 Sustainability in Action at the BioDT Final Event 🌍 Two weeks ago, the BioDT Final Event brought together the #biodiversity and #digitaltwin communities in Rome for a powerful exchange of science, insights, and collaboration. But beyond the content, the event also reflected a deeper commitment: sustainability in practice. Taking inspiration from Lavoisier’s Law of Conservation of Matter – “nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed” – our partner, @TrustITServices, helped design an event experience that minimised waste and maximised positive impact. 🌿 Locally sourced catering with compostable packaging 🌿 Leftover food shared with colleagues to avoid waste 🌿 No printed flyers – instead, plantable seed paper badges that grow into wildflowers 🌿 Eco-friendly, plantable giveaways replacing traditional merchandise Because an event that showcases climate resilience and biodiversity research should also walk the talk. In BioDT, sustainability goes beyond research. Read more: trust-itservices.com/news/no…

From lots of color to no color at all! Meet the Midnight Angelfish (Centropyge nox). Yes, it's a real fish, and it's common in shallow coral-rich areas of the western Pacific. I photographed this one in Batangas, Philippines. #ichthyology
