You might be surprised by how much your home knows about you. Your TV. Your car. Your smartwatch. Even your kids' devices. Everyday technology can reveal more about your life than you realise. Take our interactive Your Day in Data experience to see what this could look like in a household like yours. 🔒 No answers collected. No data stored. Web3 belongs in the mainstream. @BillLaboon joined Good Morning Britain @GMB yesterday to discuss our latest research on privacy, data, and the everyday internet. This is the work we love! We take the ideas behind Web3 beyond our industry and into the conversations shaping how people think about the future of the web.

the discourse around ai and the left has been weird and confusing so i was on @culturejourno to talk about it i think there are three questions to ask yourself to know where you might stand in the landscape - is ai dangerous - is ai "magical"? - is ai in a financial bubble?

The idea is simple: the person who produces data should be the one who benefits from it. That's the ideal. Getting there is a process, not an overnight utopia, and it's what web3 is working towards. Polkadot Mobile and Desktop are built on technology designed to move us closer to that world, where the person producing the data, the individual user, remains the owner of their own data, and of the benefits stemming from that ownership. More insights from @BillLaboon at @Web3summit 2026 below.

Recent developments in the UK around VPNs are a stark warning that while intentions might look good, underlying problems can still persist if platforms hold the power. The UK is right not to ban VPNs because privacy and security tools should not become collateral damage in the effort to protect children online. However, putting the responsibility back onto social platforms does not resolve the underlying problem. It asks the same companies that built systems around behavioral profiling, persuasive design, and centralized control to: 👀identify users, 🔞infer their age, 🔏detect attempts to preserve privacy, 🤼and decide who may participate. This might seem a bit obvious, but: You do not reduce platform power by giving platforms more power. Safety measures should be built into open infrastructure: ◼️Proof of eligibility without revealing identity ◼️User-held credentials rather than platform-owned profiles ◼️Selective disclosure rather than repeated document or biometric checks ◼️Rules that can be inspected and independently verified ◼️Privacy tools that do not automatically make users suspicious Protecting children matters, and so does ensuring that protection does not become the foundation for a more surveilled and permissioned web.

The best thing about Playground . dot at @Web3Summit was not the deployments. It was watching people help each other debug. Explain their ideas to strangers. Fork someone else's work and make it their own. Less technology. More people.

Surveillance is creeping into everyday life. Even in Berlin, police are pushing for broader camera powers, and new surveillance laws are being rushed through. So I built 𝐤𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐢 (dot com): a walk/bike route planner that avoids cameras, fully offline on your device!

🚨Yanis Varoufakis on blockchain, the digital euro and being a class traitor I spoke to @yanisvaroufakis, economist and former Greek finance minister, at @Web3summit in Berlin on June 18th, about why he thinks blockchain is one of the few tools that can pull power away from Big Tech and the banks. Truly a privilege that I had the chance to speak with him on such a stage. Full Episode ⬇️

Over the coming weeks, we'll explore the hidden economics behind today's internet, beginning with one simple question: If online services are free... ...where does the money come from? Read The Hidden Price of Free 👇 web3.foundation/insights/

Every time we click "Accept", we make a trade. Not with money, but with our data, our attention, and, increasingly, our autonomy. The internet's most successful business model isn't really free, and it's fair to say we all pay for it in ways that are difficult to see. This clip explores one of the ideas behind the Web3 Foundation whitepaper, The Hidden Price of Free, and why it's time to rethink what "free" really costs.

Some conversations do not end when an event is over. After joining us at Web3 Summit, @dasupervielle, Director of Strategic Communications at CERES, one of the most important think tanks in Uruguay, published a thoughtful reflection titled “I don’t want to be a stormtrooper.” A sharp piece on privacy, sovereignty, autonomy, and the question of whether we are shaping the future of the internet, or simply living inside systems designed by others. This is what we aim to do at PBA: build bridges so Web3 conversations can travel beyond the ecosystem. Read full article here👇 ceres.uy/index.php/contenido…

190 people deployed their own decentralized apps at @Web3Summit 2026. Most had never touched @Polkadot before. • 272 .dot domains published • 22,820 XP earned • 469 stars given • 49 apps forked from each other's code. That happened at a conference where most people did not come to build. They simply started from working open-source code, modded it with AI assistance, and published to an open demo-net in under 30 minutes. The stack underneath - Bulletin, Statement Store, the Product SDK - quietly did its job under real-world pressure. This is what infrastructure looks like when it works. Lower the barrier enough and builders show up.

Privacy isn't just about keeping secrets. It's about preserving the freedom to communicate, organize, and think without every conversation being subject to mass surveillance. Yesterday, the EU reinstated the temporary "Chat Control" regulation, allowing providers to continue to voluntarily scan private communications until 2028. Meanwhile, negotiations continue on a permanent framework that still leaves fundamental questions around encrypted communications unresolved. Whatever your position on the legislation itself, one principle should remain clear: Private communication should be the default. Encryption protects journalists, activists, businesses, families, and ordinary citizens every day. Weakening it doesn't only affect criminals. It changes the security model for everyone. This is why open, decentralized infrastructure matters. Technology should give people agency over their own communications, not require them to trust that privacy will always be preserved by policy alone. Privacy is not an obstacle to a safer internet. It's one of the foundations of a free one.

At @Web3Summit this past month, I gave probably what was one of the strangest presentations I've ever given. Over the past year I've been mulling over some big concepts and trying to put them all together in one coherent narrative. What if all this talk about the K-shaped economy is actually just a visual representation of a collective k-hole? Yes, that kind of k-hole. youtube.com/watch?v=XujvC7le…

The recent #Web3 Summit 2026 in Berlin proved why #Polkadot remains a powerhouse for digital freedom. With around 900 builders, researchers, and creators gathering at the iconic Funkhaus, the event successfully pushed decentralized tech from theory into everyday practical tools. Dr. Gavin Wood delivered a keynote outlining the vision for #Polkadot’s evolution, focusing on #JAM (Join Accumulate Machine), privacy, and "proof of personhood" to scale decentralization. And YES All this is Huge if your a $DOT Holder!

Great to see the developer activity at @Web3summit Open-source code only goes as far as the people who run with it. Shout out to the independent validators, collaborators, and third-party teams who kept infrastructure moving last week. 🙌
