Cuteness overload! We loved joining some of our local elementary schools for their annual fun runs! Our officers got cooked by some speedsters!
On #NationalFirstResponderDay, we’re giving a huge shoutout to the brave men and women in public safety who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities.

WPD executes search warrant, uncovers drugs, guns and more
Recently, #WPD executed a search warrant at a home in the 7900 block of N Lowell Blvd following an extensive investigation related to motor vehicle theft, drug possession and distribution, and eluding.
Officers found drugs and several guns inside and recovered a stolen trailer. Four people were arrested and taken into custody on outstanding warrants and new charges. Job well done!
*It's important to note all persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Spooooky season👻
Seriously though, there’s heavy fog in some areas impacting visibility. Drive responsibly, please!
Are you prepared to evacuate with your pets?
Our Animal Management team and the City of Westminster Emergency Management teamed up with public safety partners and local pet owners for a hands-on evacuation simulation focused on family and pet disaster preparedness.
The scenario helped us practice how to safely assist animals that may be left behind in an evacuation zone or need extra help during an emergency. After the simulation, we welcomed community members to ask questions and learn more about emergency response.
This is another good reminder to sign up for Lookout Alert and Genasys Protect to stay informed and prepared.

Now that's a lot of drugs - 160 lbs worth!
Over the weekend, our community dropped off unused/unneeded prescription drugs for proper disposal on #NationalPrescriptionDrugTakeBackDay. We're happy to continue offering this service bi-annually to our community in partnership with the DEA.
DID YOU KNOW? The #WPD Blue Envelope Program helps facilitate communication between officers and individuals with disabilities or other conditions who may benefit from additional support during interactions with first responders.
Today, we visited students in Westminster Public Schools’ Transition Program to share more information about the program. And, of course, we had to check out the patrol car!
The blue envelope provides a place to keep essential documents, along with information or instructions an individual chooses to share that may help officers better understand their needs.
Blue envelopes are available upon request at the Public Safety Center (9110 Yates St).

SCAM ALERT | We’ve received reports of individuals impersonating #WPD officers over the phone.
These callers may spoof caller ID to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency. They may claim you have an active warrant and pressure you to “cooperate” by purchasing gift cards and sharing the access codes or providing other sensitive information.
THIS IS A SCAM!
A couple quick reminders...
◾If you are contacted by law enforcement, we will never ask for money, gift cards, or PayPal cards.
◾NEVER provide financial information over the phone
◾No government uses gift cards or PayPal cards to conduct business
◾Scammers like to create a sense of urgency
◾When skepticism is expressed by the victim, the scammers often become more aggressive and try to make the matter seem more urgent
Please share this with your loved ones to help keep our community safe. If you sense something is off, trust your gut.

DID YOU KNOW? Use our Safe Exchange Zone for online transactions
WPD encourages community members to use our parking lot as a designated Safe Exchange Zone when completing transactions arranged through Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist and other online platforms.
WPD Address: 9110 Yates St, Westminster, CO 80031
Our parking lot provides a well-lit location at a police facility to help promote safer exchanges between buyers and sellers. While we encourage the use of this space, WPD personnel are not able to participate in transactions, act as official witnesses, provide legal advice, or mediate civil or pricing disputes. Officers may only intervene if a safety concern or criminal matter arises.
Safety tips for completing online transactions:
◾Only do transactions with local buyers/sellers
◾Do not go to a transaction alone
◾Make sure a friend or family member is aware of the transaction details
◾Insist on meeting in a public area like our safe transaction zones

Training time with our partners @WestyFire!
In an emergency, seconds matter. That’s why trainings like these are so critical. Together, we practiced forcible entry techniques needed to breach locked doors, windows, and other structural barriers during critical incidents. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork
HUGE congrats to Luke for completing the 100 Yard Challenge with our Mowing with Cops: Lawn Enforcement Program!
Led by our #WPD School Resource Officers in partnership with Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service, this program provides free lawn care to residents who could use a helping hand while giving local teens the opportunity to serve their community.
After mowing 100 yards, participants earn their own lawn mower, string trimmer, and leaf blower —provided by Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service. Luke has officially reached that milestone! Congratulations, Luke!
This summer, nine teens helped maintain 80 yards for residents across Westminster.
If you’re interested in joining the program next summer, please fill out this form: ow.ly/yhcc50ZC5g6

Congratulations on your retirement!
After 40 years in law enforcement, 24 years of which with the Westminster Police Department, Senior Police Officer Scott Hopkins is officially retiring.
During his two decades with the City of Westminster, Officer Hopkins has served as a Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Field Training Officer, Officer Survival Instructor and SWAT Team member (22 years!)
In his retirement letter, he wrote in part, "I would like to sincerely thank the police department, command staff, supervisors, support staff, and especially all the patrol officers I have worked with day-to-day for making my time here meaningful and fulfilling. The relationships, experiences, and memories I have gained throughout my career are things I will always value and appreciate."
Scott, thank you for all your service and wisdom over the years. We will miss you and wish you all the best on this next chapter. Please come back and visit!
