You can't “sweat out” a night of drinking. A hard workout might feel like the fastest way to bounce back, but WHOOP research suggests a different approach.

After drinking, members who exceeded their Strain Target had just a 25% chance of green Recovery the following day. Whereas those who stayed within their Restorative Strain target had an 87% chance.

Recovery isn't always about doing more. After a night of drinking, choosing restorative activity over an intense workout may give your body a better chance to bounce back. Know when to push and when to recover.

Terrain isn’t a place. It’s a practice. The way you move, make, and push past your own edges. Surfer and artist, Tre'lan Michael, and athlete and biochemistry student, Kayla Roseboro, each explore their own. For them, discovering the world and discovering yourself is the same pursuit.

I've always said our ambition with @WHOOP is to create something that's either cool or invisible. Today, we're taking that philosophy to the next level with the launch of LAYER 2, our latest collection with Samuel Ross. Available now via link below.

Today’s the Sports Equinox, the rare day when baseball, basketball, football and hockey all share the spotlight. So which one takes the biggest toll on the body? 🏀⚾🏒🏈
Basketball. A typical session scores a Strain of 12.9 out of 21, the highest of the four.

Why? Basketball keeps the heart working.
Players spend 13% of a session in heart rate zones 4–5, compared with 5% for football, 4% for hockey and 2% for baseball. And it builds the most Strain in less time. A typical session runs 65 minutes, vs. 76 for hockey and 79 for football.

The pulse in the stands tells a similar story.
During last season’s championships, fans tuned in to basketball’s biggest stage felt it most, with a Strain of 5.3 and a peak heart rate of 146 bpm. The hardest sport to play might also be the hardest to watch.

Everyone wants to learn how to manage their stress But not all stress is bad. The key is knowing when it’s helping you grow and when it’s wearing you down. This week on the WHOOP Podcast’s Science of Human Performance Series, WHOOP Global Head of Human Performance and Principal Scientist Dr. Kristen Holmes sits down with WHOOP Staff Research Scientist Gregory Grosicki, PhD, MDS to unpack what stress really does to the body. Together, Dr. Holmes and Dr. Grosicki explore the difference between good and bad stress, how stress shows up in your physiology, why your perception of stress matters, and what you can do throughout the day to better manage stress and support your sleep and recovery.

The goal isn’t to eliminate stress. It’s to understand it, recognize when it’s helping you grow versus wearing you down, and build enough recovery into your life to adapt to it.
