For six years, internet data support has helped Wikimedia Ghana volunteers participate online. But what happens when support becomes expected? At #Wikimania2026, we explored being equitable without creating transactional engagement.

We partnered with @Kukun_Ghana for a #WikiLovesPlaces photo walk in Osu Ako-Adjei, documenting places through geotagged photos. These photos will help improve free online maps, make local places easier to explore, and expand feely accessible knowledge about Ghana.📸🇬🇭
We hosted volunteers at the Work From Home Workspace to localize Suggestion Mode, a Wikimedia feature that gives helpful Wikipedia editing tasks, into Ghanaian Pidgin using Translatewiki. They translated all 110 interface messages of the feature!
We thank all who participated!
19 women in Kumasi are now part of the #freeknowledge movement and contributing to Wikipedia! Through our Write The Internet project with @haven_africa, these women learned to edit #Wikipedia and will contribute to creating and improving content about Ghana and women online.
