I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Referee reports on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched revise and resubmits glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those articles will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to write.
My dog Monty: @tylercowen has asked me to independently review the evidence. I have found 147 problems, 146 of which are with the humans
I have a colleague who asks “How are you?” Every morning. I have now wearied of saying “fine” and fear having to say it daily for another twenty years. So today I tried the answer: “If it keeps on raining the levee’s gonna break.”
Precarious academics put together a start up focused on paranormal investigation but run into major zoning and bylaw hassle from local authorities. It becomes increasingly unclear whom to contact telephonically.
A 🇿🇦 pilot from Kimberley, Northern Cape, helped foil that mid-air terror attack. Rowan Tooth and a 🥝 pilot, took control of the plummeting jet and diverted to Saudi Arabia. All 182 souls on board survived
Our pilots don’t just fly low at the rugby. They fly pretty high too.

Collective noun for a group of academics? A “tremble”? A “quiver”? A “palpitation”? How about a “pit-a-pat”? Meanwhile, almost oddly, some individual academics are bloody brave!
The dog is really getting in to Mayor of Kingstown!
I’m just surprised because he’s not normally a Taylor Sheridan fan
I reminded my History students that at about their age another historian called E. P. Thompson was serving as a tank commander in North Africa and Italy during World War II. So could they please not call their sit-down blue book exam “traumatic”. They took it in a good spirit.
Sure but the call is coming from inside the building too. We academics are ASTONISHINGLY cowardly. (Bafflingly so given our job security once tenured.) We self censor preemptively!
🔎 Where does the pressure on professors to avoid "controversial" topics come from?
In a new survey of HxA members, many gave the same answer: other professors.
In collaboration with @Hartz_PhD and @epkaufm, this new survey identifies which topics feel off-limits on campus and why.
Huge huge huge news, fellow South Africans! I JUST GOT SOMETHING FROM THE POSTOFFICE ! Literally sent from Australia and it actually ARRIVED! 🇿🇦

Wore my HFM T-shirt today, and despite being swamped with writing, I truly miss our HFM sessions. More than just academic gatherings, they challenge us to grow through rigorous feedback. HFM is a DNA test for every Dragon! @WildPasts_
But not TOO much imagination as Raymond Dart taught us by accident.
From the SAPIENS.org archive. An archaeologist studying 1,000-year-old dog burials reflects on the need for imagination in archaeology. buff.ly/kSF79vG
