すべてが始まったのは、引っ越して2週間目のことだった。
私は1階のガレージで空き箱の整理をしていた。
作業の途中でふと足元にあった重い箱を蹴ってしまい、中を覗き込む。あ、本だ。

その日の夜、私は夕食を食べながらテレビの前に座っていた。ニュース番組では、壁の中に潜んでいた指名手配中のシリアルキラーを警察が発見したというニュースを報じている。
じっと聞き入っていると、背すじに冷たいものが走った。失踪事件や怪奇犯罪のドキュメンタリー番組は大好きだが、自分が住んでいる街で起きるとなると話は別だ。
私は気分を変えようとNetflixを起動し、何か映画かドラマでも探すことにした。画面の最初に表示された作品を再生し、ソファに横たわってご飯を食べながら画面を眺めた。
「ドンドン！」
私は飛び起きるようにしてソファから身を起こした。
どうやらテレビを見ているうちに眠ってしまったらしい。
何が自分を叩き起こしたのか分からず、混乱しながら周囲を見回した。私の皿とコップは、置いた場所のままコーヒーテーブルの上に載っていた。
身体を伸ばし、スマホを手に取って立ち上がろうとした。
「ドンドン！」
腰を浮かせた姿勢のまま、私は凍りついた。
顔の表面が凍りつくような冷気がさっと走る。
「……何なの、一体？」と私は囁いた。
ゆっくりと完全に立ち上がる。
用心深く窓——玄関扉の横にある窓に向かって歩を進めた。カーテンをそっと引き寄せ、外の様子を覗き込む。

After we were intimate I got up and put my clothes back on, then sat on the edge of the bed without saying anything.
My husband asked if something was wrong.
I said no.
He asked why I was acting different.
I turned to him and said, “You feel close to me because we just had sex. When was the last time you made me feel close to you outside of this?”
He laughed and said, “What does that have to do with anything? I’m your husband. I work all day for you and this house.”
I told him I don’t deny how hard he works, but being his wife doesn’t mean I have to be ready for sex every time he wants it, and saying no doesn’t mean I don’t love him.
He went quiet after that.
He sees himself providing, never holding back on anything material, coming home tired and still trying to connect. What he doesn’t see is what happens next.
If I say yes, he falls asleep satisfied. If I say no, his whole face changes and he barely speaks to me for the rest of the night. I’ve started feeling like I’m in charge of his mood instead of just sharing something with him.
The question I keep sitting with is this: does a husband get to be upset when his wife isn’t in the mood, or does her agreeing to sex not automatically mean she feels emotionally close to him?

I BOOKED A HOTEL ROOM FOR 3 NIGHTS. THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR A GUEST WHO NEVER EXISTED. 😳
Hotel Receptionist: Your total is $925.
Me: Excuse me? I booked three nights at $150 per night. That’s $450.
Receptionist: There are additional charges. An extra guest, restaurant orders, and late-night room service.
Me: An extra guest? I travelled ALONE. And I haven't ordered room service once!
Receptionist: That's what our system shows.
Me: Interesting. Then let's find out who this mystery guest is.
She called the duty manager.
Manager: What's the problem?
Me: Your hotel is charging me for someone who never stayed in my room and meals I never ordered.
He opened the reservation and started reviewing the records.
Then his expression changed.
Manager: This is strange. Your original booking was for one person.
Me: So who added the second guest?
Manager: Someone modified your reservation using a staff account two nights ago.
Me: And the restaurant bills?
Manager: Those were added yesterday.
I looked straight at him.
So someone invented a guest, invented food orders, and expected me to pay $475 extra?
The manager turned towards the receptionist.
Suddenly, she couldn't make eye contact.

He tried to offer me a corrected invoice, but I insisted on seeing the transaction history.
