5 octobre 1973, Paul McCartney et ce qu'il reste de ses Wings enregistrent l'un des titres majeurs de l'album "Band On The Run" et, sans doute, de toute la carrière solo de McCartney.
Ce sera d'ailleurs le titre qui clôturera l'album. Et il y a du "The End" dans cette chanson, voire du "A Day In The Life".
Le piano est le moteur rythmique du morceau. Le jeu de piano est martelé, combinant des accords plaqués et des syncopes inspirées du boogie-woogie et du funk. La voix de McCartney passe d'un chant feutré et intimiste sur le premier couplet à un chant écorché et hurlé. Le titre culmine dans un véritable climax orchestral où tous les instruments (batterie, cuivres, Moog, guitares) se fondent dans un chaos sonore parfaitement contrôlé.
On est là en présence d'un chef-d'œuvre dans lequel McCartney nous propose toute la palette de son talent. De tous ses talents.
