Disabled people will have to wait until next month, and possibly December, to discover the government’s plans for cuts and reforms to their support through the social security system, after this week’s budget offered few new hints. #Budget26 disabilitynewsservice.com/bu…

I'm helping someone in Malaysia 🇲🇾 spread the word about the first ever WhatsApp group they created for people with Long COVID and ME: chat.whatsapp.com/BY4lLd7FQ2… Can we find anyone out there in the LC/ME Twitter-verse from Malaysia? With a population of 34 million, there's got to be some!

The employment minister – backed by the Department for Work and Pensions – appears to have trashed the government’s long-held position that only “good work” is good for your health, while also calling for “everyone” to have paid jobs. #DWP disabilitynewsservice.com/al…

Long-COVID is associated with increased absenteeism from work 😢The big surprise……NOT! ➡️"The two-part model revealed that individuals with long-COVID had 2.54 more missed workdays compared to those without long-COVID (p < 0.01), after controlling for relevant variables." ➡️"These results underscore significant productivity losses associated with long-COVID, highlighting the need for policymakers and employers to implement effective strategies to address this condition." And will they recognise this……..No, of course not! THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH! #C19 #Reinfections journals.plos.org/plosone/ar…

Economic Burden of Post-COVID Syndrome in Germany Between 2021 and 2025: A Statutory Health Insurance Claims Data Analysis 🚨LongC0VID’s real cost isn’t hospital beds, it’s sick days and doctor visits, especially among working-age adults. What a surprise, NOT!😷 ➡️This interesting study used anonymous German health insurance records (real-life data, not a lab experiment). ➡️It found that people who developed longC0VID (new cases of postC0VID symptoms) kept needing more medical care, took more sick days, and cost the health system more money for a long time afterward. ➡️The biggest extra burdens were: - More sick leave (time off work), - More outpatient doctor visits (regular doctor appointments, not hospital stays), ➡️This was especially true for working-age adults. ➡️In other words, the long-term costs of longC0VID hit hardest in everyday medical care and lost work productivity, rather than in hospital admissions. ➡️The researchers conclude that better prevention of longC0VID is needed to reduce these ongoing effects on healthcare use and people’s ability to work. ‼️So, AGAIN, postC0VID syndrome creates a substantial, persistent economic burden driven mainly by excess sick leave and outpatient care, especially among working-age adults, rather than hospital stays! 😡BUT, let's not forget the personal impact too!! #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections #Mitigation jheor.org/article/170196-eco…

Federal employees with Long COVID are reportedly facing revoked remote work accommodations, months-long delays, and repeated disability reviews. Long COVID is recognized under federal disability law. Those protections mean little if patients can’t access them. motherjones.com/politics/202…

Kemi Badenoch claimed in her #budget response that the UK was "drowning in an out-of-control #welfare system” and “about to collapse" under it. But the OBR says social security spending will stay at ~11% of GDP over the next 5 years, lower than in 2010. obr.uk/

The public discourse around the efficacy of masks is insane. When transmission rates are low, “masks don’t work”, and when rates are high, “NHS hospital trusts south of the Tyne now require staff to wear masks”. Masks work. Period. chroniclelive.co.uk/news/nor…

📢 UPDATE: Today I’ve written to the APPG on Long COVID. I’ve asked them to bring my independent #petition and open letter to the UK Prime Minister to the attention of decision-makers, and to ensure our voices are heard. #LongCOVID needs a properly funded national strategy. 💛

Dare you tell workers who got sick at work (#LongCovid) who are still sick that all work is good for health @AndrewHWestern ? Ministers need to cite current evidence on “good work” being generally good for health NOT 2006 commissioned work that’s outdated & limited in scope

THE BIG REVEAL: Scotland’s IPC team have decided to place COVID in the R1 category. That means they consider that COVID: ▪️does NOT cause severe disease ▪️is UNLIKELY to spread to the community ▪️and there IS prophylaxis or treatment readily available. nipcm.hps.scot.nhs.uk/media/…

We should support people who can work into employment. You don't do that by cutting the already meagre support disabled people rely on to live. Restricting eligibility doesn't mean less people will be disabled, just that more will be in poverty. That's not the Labour way.
