A small feature built for our teams, but one that might save you time too 🔥 You can now pass a prompt to Euria, our sovereign AI, directly via URL. In practice: add your content straight into the URL and Euria opens right on your prompt. Handy in an article, documentation, or tutorial, instead of explaining what to ask the AI, you drop a link and the reader lands exactly where they need to be. Two details worth noting: No account required. The link works in private browsing too, so zero friction for the reader. Requests are processed in our Swiss data centers, on open-source models running locally. This is already a common pattern across other AI assistants. It felt right to bring it to Euria, without making anyone create an account to use it. Try it with this link: euria.infomaniak.com/?messag…

I don’t think people realize how selfless and wonderful the StackOverflow’s founders were. Unlike reddit, x etc they insisted ALL of their content will be 100% open, nothing will ever be locked up in walled garden. They made it a point by even offering structured data downloads! They didn’t cared people cloning the website. They didn’t worry about putting the whole monetization thing at risk. It was a true hacker spirit in it’s purest form. Most folks won’t be able to grasp how hard this is. You are on top of the world. Millions of people depend on you daily. You have the rarest opportunity to rack in billions. And you still stay true to your principles. This exactly in turn later enabled AI revolution. I still remember downloading entire SO archives and preparing it for pre-training while Reddit and others went onto lawfare and firewalling the content. Note that this was the content their users - not reddit employees - had created for free and voluntarily to help others and the world. But they locked it all up for profiting from it personally. SO did none of that. I think they knew they will be sacrificed at the altar. Yet it will exactly serve the intent of their founding principles to help others and the world, now through AI, even at bigger scale. All of today’s models are built upon efforts of such true pure hackers who spent their days and years to create training data for AIs. I was a proud SO contributer for many years and there are couple of times while testing models I did felt that models might have used my answers 😇. Hats off to @codinghorror and @spolsky and so many builders and hackers at SO for moving the world forward, one revolution at a time 🫡.

This is eye-opening. Europe’s share of global tech R&D has collapsed from 23% in 2005 to just 8% today, while the US has climbed to 62% and China has risen from near zero to 15%. South Korea now outspends Germany, France, the UK, and Italy combined in tech R&D. Yep, you read that right. This is the predictable result of policy choices that systematically favor control and redistribution over growth. Layered regulation, data rules, AI restrictions, labor rigidities, and precautionary frameworks, raises the cost and slows the pace of turning ideas into products, forcing companies to spend scarce resources on compliance rather than experimentation. High taxation and expansive redistributive systems extract capital that would otherwise fund private R&D and risk-taking, while shrinking the after-tax reward for building something new and scaling it. The broader left-leaning mindset that prioritizes equality of outcome over dynamism treats entrepreneurial success as something to be managed, taxed, or shared rather than unleashed and rewarded. Places that protect the returns to innovation and keep barriers low continue to pull ahead, attracting talent and capital that Europe increasingly loses. Europe’s relative decline is the cumulative outcome of treating dynamism as a problem to be regulated rather than the engine of prosperity. Without a shift toward lighter rules, lower burdens on enterprise, and greater tolerance for unequal outcomes from unequal effort, the gap will keep widening, and Europe will become an open-air museum for wealthy Americans and Asians.

this might be my last normal tweet before biotech goes vertical i'm not a whistleblower. I don't work at Lilly, Novo or any of the big labs but there is a massive shift happening in human biology right now. it's sitting in press releases and almost nobody reads them the last 6 months alone: - a once-daily pill roughly doubled median survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer (13.2 vs 6.6 months) - a one-time gene editing infusion cut hereditary angioedema attacks 87%, and 62% of patients stayed attack-free and off all other prevention for 6 months - a one-time gene edit for cholesterol dropped LDL up to 62%, and it held for over a year - a personalized mrna vaccine beat keytruda alone in a 1,137 patient melanoma phase 3 - retatrutide hit ~28% weight loss in a phase 3 - an ai-designed drug entered phase 3 - a pill that regrows hair passed its second phase 3 - an immunotherapy that could let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery, chemo and radiation just got fda approved - a man lived 271 days off dialysis on a pig kidney - human cells were caught passing chromosome-sized chunks of DNA to their neighbors, and it changes how the neighbors behave we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday stick around, it's going to get weird bio/acc

This paper answers: why anything is beautiful why jokes are funny why we get curious why you get bored why babies explore why music has hooks For centuries, we thought these were deeply mystical human traits. Soul-level mysteries that machines could never touch. But, the paper proves that the human brain operates as a relentless compression engine. It is constantly trying to predict the world and compress it into the smallest possible file size. Here is how it explains your entire life: If something is completely predictable, your brain has already compressed it. There is no new data to extract. The result? You feel bored. If something is pure randomness, your brain cannot compress it at all. The result? You feel annoyed or tune it out. But then there is the sweet spot. When you encounter something that seems complex, but suddenly your brain finds the hidden pattern and connects the dots... your brain releases dopamine. That sudden, glorious rush of successful data compression? That is what you experience as "curiosity." When a comedian tells a story that makes no sense, and the punchline suddenly makes all the pieces fit together instantly? That rapid neural compression is what you experience as "humor." When you look at a painting and notice an underlying symmetry that ties the chaos together? That is "beauty." Art, science, music, and jokes are not magic. They are just highly optimized data sets designed to trigger compression progress in your neural network. Here is the most unsettling part. This paper wasn't written by a philosopher. It was written by an AI pioneer to figure out how to program intrinsic motivation into artificial agents. He wasn't trying to explain humans. He was writing the blueprint for machines. We always assumed AI could never appreciate art, laugh at a joke, or feel the spark of curiosity. But if our deepest subjective experiences are just a mathematical reward for maximizing compression progress...

🎉 The 2026 rankings are in! How competitive is your country’s tax code? See how your country compares with our new interactive tool: hubs.ly/Q04C914t0 The structure of a country’s tax code is a determining factor of its economic performance. A well-structured tax code is easy for taxpayers to comply with and can promote economic development while raising sufficient revenue for a government’s priorities. In contrast, poorly structured tax systems can be costly, distort economic decision-making, and harm domestic economies. The International Tax Competitiveness Index gives a comprehensive overview of how OECD countries’ tax codes compare, explains why certain tax codes stand out as good or bad models for reform, and provides important insight into how to think about tax policy.

I don’t think Europeans fully appreciate what is happening to the European Union right now. The EU is under an extraordinary, multi-front assault, both from outside and from within. And I struggle to think of another period in its history when so many powerful actors had an interest in weakening it simultaneously. Russia has spent years waging hybrid warfare against Europe. Weaponised migration, sabotage, cyberattacks, coordinated disinformation campaigns, bot networks and political interference. The objective is clear: undermine trust in democratic institutions, deepen social divisions and weaken European unity. China has different motivations, primarily economic and geopolitical. A fragmented Europe is easier to pressure, easier to negotiate with individually and less capable of defending its economic interests. And then there is the United States. Perhaps the most disturbing development of all. Under Trump and MAGA, a country that helped rebuild the old continent and then spent decades supporting European integration now has an administration openly hostile to much of what the EU represents. Its own National Security Strategy even calls for cultivating resistance to Europe’s current political direction. Think about that for a moment. Meanwhile, within Europe, parts of the far right and far left amplify these divisions, whether through ideological alignment, political opportunism or outright sympathy for authoritarian regimes. This doesn’t mean Russia, China and MAGA are all following some jointly coordinated master plan. They don’t have to. Their interests increasingly overlap, and Europe’s internal divisions make their work considerably easier. What makes this particularly alarming is what is actually at stake. For all its flaws, the EU remains one of the world’s most consequential projects built around liberal democracy, the rule of law, individual freedoms and cooperation between nations. At a time when authoritarianism is gaining ground and even longstanding democracies are showing disturbing tendencies, that matters enormously. Europe is far from perfect. Its bureaucracy, indecision and inability to act decisively are real problems. But the answer cannot be to retreat into 27 competing nation-states, each too small to meaningfully influence a world increasingly dominated by continental powers. Quite the opposite. Europe needs deeper integration, stronger common institutions, genuine strategic autonomy and the political courage to defend its interests and values. Because fragmentation is precisely what so many external actors want. And perhaps that’s the central irony of our time: people are being deliberately manipulated into believing that the reverse is true — that national identity and sovereignty can only be protected by weakening European cooperation. In reality, a divided Europe is less sovereign, less secure and far easier for outside powers to pressure. Therefore the very thing that will make Europe stronger is the thing its adversaries are working hardest to prevent. A united Europe is a geopolitical power. A divided Europe is a collection of countries waiting to be played against one another.

Spending on core state functions (net of pension contributions) in France compared to peers. To compute these shares, I removed the State’s imputed pension contributions for teachers, soldiers and other civil servants from each function and from total spending-- gives a better sense of what the government spends on teaching kids and keeping the country safe. thetwocents.substack.com/p/t…

French students complain that France doesn't spend enough on education. Well, it does: $13,787 per pupil per year, 1.4% more than the OECD average, and more than countries like 🇰🇷🇩🇪🇦🇺🇨🇭🇪🇸🇨🇦🇮🇹 But 32% of that money doesn't go to education, but to pensions!
