#R is a powerful, open-source statistics package that can access #Octo data. In his blog post R Statistics on a Live VistA Instance (yottadb.com/r-statistics-on-…), Sam Habiel discusses using R to investigate a cohort of synthetic patients generated by #Synthea and loaded into #VistA.

#Octo now supports "piece of piece" column definitions, e.g., a column which is the second "!" delimited piece of the third "^" delimited piece of a node. An example of this occurs in lab chemistry data in #VistA. Sam Habiel's blog post at yottadb.com/access-vista-lab… discusses this.
