While there were no broad increases to the main taxes, some of the most important announcements for accountants and bookkeepers were about how the tax system will work in practice. Decisions on tackling youth unemployment will follow next month’s Milburn review. One welcome change is confirmation that taxpayers joining Making Tax Digital next April will not receive penalty points for late quarterly submissions during that tax year. This breathing space will help AAT members guide clients through the transition and build confidence in meeting their new obligations. Looking further ahead, from 2029 some Self Assessment taxpayers will make more regular in-year Income Tax payments, while those with VAT and PAYE liabilities will need a Direct Debit in place. Once again, AAT members will be on the front line, helping individuals and businesses understand the detail, prepare early and manage change with confidence. In the weeks ahead, we’ll continue working with government to ensure the practical expertise of AAT members helps shape how these policies are developed and implemented. #AAT #Budget #Tax

We’re delighted to welcome Craig Dyer as AAT President and Libby Walklett BA Hons, FMAAT, AATQB as Vice-President! ⤵️ youra.at/nvqAZm Both Craig and Libby bring a wealth of experience and a shared passion for championing AAT members, with career journeys that demonstrate there’s no single route into accountancy. After retraining from a career in education, Craig established his own practice and is committed to helping people from all backgrounds access rewarding careers in finance. Libby also took a different path into the profession, moving from hospitality management into finance before qualifying with AAT, establishing her own bookkeeping practice and becoming an active advocate for the profession. As they take on their new roles, both are passionate about celebrating the people behind the numbers and championing the contribution of bookkeepers, accounting technicians, students and apprentices across the UK. Congratulations to Craig and Libby! We look forward to working together to support our members and shape the future of the profession. We’d also like to thank Lucy Cohen for her fantastic contribution as AAT President over the past year.
