Many of the comments below are abhorrent. It hurts Michael's cause for rationality and sanity in the events that he covers.

This is a false dichotomy because he also has folksy/plain kind of way of talking that doesn't read as black.
If will be interesting to see, as Obama ages, the extent (and in which contexts) he becomes increasingly willing to "talk black" in public & not code switch into Professor Obama. Not that this Obama was ever fully absent. Still, this entire riff is unfiltered and direct in a way that was rare during his presidency

The latest “terrorism” case in Rostov has a surreal cast of cellmates: a tortured Ukrainian sentenced to 17 years, a minor drug offender, and two Russian soldiers serving life for a massacre in Ukraine. The plan was supposedly to overtake the prison en.zona.media/article/2026/1…

"The project’s thoroughness would be almost comical were its subject not so stubbornly controversial, an emblem of all the contradictions embedded in who, exactly, Americans take themselves to be."
America’s longest-running paternity dispute has seemingly come to an end: Thomas Jefferson fathered children with Sally Hemings, his enslaved chambermaid, and the Smithsonian has the DNA to prove it. Richard Kurin, a 50-year veteran of the institution, launched a top-secret study of the question in 2011. Now Jefferson’s entire genome has been sequenced, and compared with those of Hemings’s descendants. A set of newly confirmed Jefferson-Hemings descendants includes Margot Kossmann Williams, a biologist at Ohio State University, and her maternal grandmother, Dorothy McKnight. Julian Lucas talks to Williams and her mother, visiting pivotal sites in the lives of their ancestors. newyorker.com/news/the-lede/…
