Canada operated a similar scheme. When it was extended to Winnipeg, 7,000 applications were received - every single one was a family member of someone already resident in Canada.
This will be widely abused as a form of chain family migration.

If this was the truth then the Lib Dem’s would have tried to capitalise on this at the time by running to the police and the media.
I would be very surprised if the Lib Dem’s weren’t at fault, as otherwise, I don’t know why Reform would have brought it up.

Other nations don’t respect us for this
They laugh at our naivity as they take our money and jobs
My views on intentional spending are well known and long established.
International development spending makes people ‘over there’ safer and more prosperous.
That, in turn, means that problems from ‘over there’ don’t come ‘over here’.
It is the other side of the coin from defence. It’s about our national security and it’s spent in our national interest.

Tax his work, Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find any way To tax his ass!
Tax him all he has, then let him know
That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and when he hollers;
Then tax him more, take all his dollars
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in Which he's laid...
Put these words Upon his tomb:
‘Taxes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone, Do not relax,
It's time to apply Inheritance Tax!

Chancellor John Healey could have reversed the financial punishment inflicted by his predecessor Rachel Reeves with the family farm tax. He failed to do so. Meanwhile, over 6,000 farming related businesses have closed since the IHT announcement in the 2024 Budget.

BREAKING: after Healey’s Budget today, MoD spending will be £1bn per year lower than in the Defence Investment Plan he resigned over👇
Big row potentially brewing on defence…
Tories alleging that Healey - the man of principle who quit over DIP - might actually be *cutting* defence spending
In the next two financial years, the budget for the MOD will be £1bn a year less than Rachel Reeves planned when the DIP was published in June.
The total departmental spending can be calculated from the Budget Red Book pages 145-147. When compared to the DIP settlement, the Tories claim it shows that Labour are cutting £1bn a year from the MOD budget for the next two years.
Why? It appears that they are forecast to spend less than expected on pensions. Rather than the MOD being allowed to reuse this Resource Department Expenditure Limit, the Treasury has kept it
