Kempston joystick interfaces were everywhere.
One port, simple mapping, and suddenly Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy became playable without destroying your hands on the rubber keyboard.
Which joystick was your weapon of choice?

The ZX Printer was a thermal printer that used special silver paper and sounded like a tiny angry robot.
It printed everything in black on a shiny grey background and cost more than some modern printers do today (adjusted for inflation).
Did you ever own one, or was it pure myth in your house?

Exolon is a flip-screen run-and-gun with platform elements, written by Raffaele Cecco. It was a big hit in 1987 for the ZX Spectrum. A young Guido Henkel worked on the Amiga port.

If you’re writing or reading about the ZX Spectrum story, you’re not just covering a computer.
You’re covering the moment a country decided technology could be personal, creative, and slightly chaotic.
Sir Clive + Rick Dickinson = the accidental architects of British bedroom coding culture.
Who else should be in that story?

Fun fact: Rick Dickinson also designed the ZX81 before the Spectrum.
The Spectrum’s case was a deliberate evolution — more colour, more character, same ruthless cost control.
The man basically defined what “British home computing” looked like.
