BREAKING: DAMN STRAIGHT! Veteran Senator Tammy Duckworth obliterates Trump’s “foolhardy” plan to build a “Triumphal Arch” for “military” purposes — and points out a GLARING risk. This is a total knockout punch… “Wasting time, energy and taxpayer dollars, on yet another Trump vanity project is particularly outrageous given the joint failure of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to effectively implement corrective actions recommended by the independent National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) following the tragic January 29, 2025, midair collision near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA); the deadliest aviation incident in the United States since 2001,”Duckworth wrote in a letter to FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The tragic incident in question occurred when a U.S. Army Black Hawk collided with an American Airlines flight, killing 67 people. Despite the horrific loss of life, the Trump administration still hasn’t heeded the National Transportation Safety Board’s recommendation to require collision-warning technology that could have alerted both crews before impact. They’ve also ignored several other suggestions. Critics of Trump’s hideous, wasteful arch are concerned that the 250-foot monstrosity could endanger aircraft. Since there’s no real case to be made for setting more tax money on fire to stroke his own ego, Trump is now absurdly claiming that the arch will be a military installation with drones, snipers, and an ammunition stockpile. By appealing to vague “national security” concerns, he hopes to run roughshod over opposition. The problem here — beyond the obvious pointlessness of the arch and the absurdity of a President without a single real victory to his name building a Triumphal Arch — is that the FAA determined it would pose no hazards to flights coming in and out of Reagan Airport BEFORE Trump declared that it would be a military installation. Drones launching off the structure could obviously pose a risk to planes and so the FAA ruling is now obsolete. Duckworth, who lost both her legs and partial use of her arm when her Black Hawk was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq, urged the FAA and DoD to “reject this foolhardy plan and instead focus on increasing the safety of the airspace.” “Last month, construction of another wasteful Trump pet project, his taxpayer-funded golden ballroom, contributed to radio failures that allowed Marine One to come within approximately 0.82 nautical miles laterally and 700 feet vertically of a passenger aircraft departing DCA,” the senator wrote. “Unfortunately, it appears that this unsettling aviation safety incident has failed to deter President Trump from prioritizing his narcissistic quest to construct monuments, ballrooms and rename performing arts centers to honor himself.” “Of course, President Trump is not solely disregarding the critical needs to improve aviation safety, he is also ignoring the American people who are struggling to afford gas, groceries, housing, airfare and everything in between,” she continued. “All because of a Trump affordability crisis triggered by President Trump’s disastrous foreign war of choice against Iran, and President Trump’s chaotic imposition of tariffs that raised prices across the board for American businesses and middle-class families.” “How can the Trump administration justify another pet project under the guise of a ‘Military Complex’ that would add to congested airspace in the National Capital Region while the FAA and DoD have not closed out the safety recommendations arising from the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster since 2001?” she added.
