Yes we need trees but they absolutely have to be cared for 👇 More than 800,000 new trees have been planted across Surrey over the past five years, exceeding the council's own target, according to a report. Surrey County Council's report found 116,359 trees had been planted in the 2025/26 financial year alone. It said the total planted between 2021 and 2026 was around 885,000, surpassing its initial target of 600,000. However, Elmbridge Borough Council recently passed a motion calling for the future East Surrey council to update its tree strategy to consider survival rates. It said many trees planted in the borough were dying within a year as a result of not receiving the right aftercare. "There is little point celebrating the number of trees we plant if a significant number of them are dead a year later," said councillor Katerina Lusk More here: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr4g…

The only answer to the surging overpopulation of deer in Britain is wolves. In northern Spain, just ~0.3% of deer have TB. In southern Spain it’s ~30%. The difference is that the north still has wolves. Wolves sniff out unwell deer and eat them. It’s so blindingly obvious.
I have been harping on about the repercussions of our deer over population for years, largely in the context of hedgerow and woodland damage. Now it's as a TB vector. It's now time for serious action...and no, the solution isn't wolves. fwi.co.uk/news/vets-call-for…

Liverpool fans: your “Liver bird” would like a word about seagrass. 🔴🌱 Watch this cormorant dive into an underwater meadow and emerge with a scorpionfish. Good movement. Clinical finishing. No VAR reprieve for the fish. For me, footage like this captures why seagrass matters so much. These meadows provide places for fish to live and feed, supporting food webs that connect life beneath the surface with the birds we see above it. Those connections are central to what we’re working to protect and rebuild at Project Seagrass. Successful conservation and restoration mean protecting and recovering living, functioning ecosystems, with the science and long-term care needed to help them thrive in a changing ocean. So, if you’re fond of a certain bird on a red shirt, perhaps there’s an underwater meadow worth getting behind too. 🎥 Watch: youtu.be/Ubasxcxwsys

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Would hide here again.” Seagrass loss in Cairns Harbour was linked to an 84% fall in fish abundance. Fish numbers recovered, but the species mix changed. Restoration success is about the life a meadow supports too. sciencedirect.com/science/ar… #Seagrass

To restore seagrass, look upstream. Sewage and farm runoff fuel algae, blocking the light seagrass needs. Planting alone won’t fix polluted water. Keep the pressure on governments. Marine conservation needs action on land. crowdfunder.co.uk/p/changing… #Seagrass

If we could bottle what seagrass does, I suspect we’d find it easier to fund. Fish nurseries. Food. Livelihoods. Carbon storage. Coastal protection. Quite a label. Help us protect and restore the real thing: crowdfunder.co.uk/p/changing… #Seagrass

Some of our most valuable infrastructure is alive. Seagrass supports fisheries, stores carbon and helps protect coasts. Climate change threatens those benefits. Protect existing meadows. Let science guide restoration. Fund long-term recovery. #Seagrass
