Macklemore just responded to being dropped from the rest of the Ed Sheeran tour…and somehow he still doesn’t get it. He wants everyone to believe this happened because he simply got on stage and said “Free Palestine.” I was there. That’s not what happened. He took someone else’s concert, accused Israel of genocide, filled the screens with anti-Israel political messaging and turned what was supposed to be an Ed Sheeran show into his own political rally. And now, rather than acknowledging for even a second why so many people were upset, he says accusations of antisemitism are being “weaponized” to silence him. That part really says it all. According to Macklemore’s statement, Ed Sheeran told him directly that his messaging had hurt a lot of people he spoke with. Macklemore’s response was basically: they’re wrong. He even says there is a “fundamental disconnect” if people are more offended by those words than by what he believes is happening in Gaza. Maybe the disconnect isn’t everyone else, @macklemore. Maybe it’s you. And the fallout didn’t stop with the reaction online. According to Macklemore himself, Robert Kraft told Ed that Macklemore would not be allowed to perform at Gillette Stadium, other stadium owners followed, and ultimately @edsheeran removed him from the tour. So thank you Robert Kraft, @Pink, and @edsheeran. Pink had the guts to publicly call this out knowing exactly what kind of reaction she would get. Robert Kraft apparently had the ability to actually do something about it…and did. And Ed ultimately did the right thing. Credit where credit is due.
