CEA Nageswaran’s op-ed judges Make in India the fair way, against peers who weathered the same decade of pandemic, tariff wars and geopolitical conflict. India comes out ahead.
From 2002 to 2013, world exports tripled from $6.2T to $18.8T. From 2014 to 2025, they grew by less than two-fifths. Even so, India’s share of world manufacturing value added rose from 2.4% to 3%, a bigger gain than Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia or South Africa made.
India’s manufacturing value added grew 73%, against 51% for China and 36% for the world. That came while China’s surplus tripled to $1.19T and German industrial output fell 14% below its 2018 level.
home, manufacturing’s share of GVA rose from 14.7% to 16.1% in three years, and factories added 14 lakh jobs in 2024–25. Solar module capacity grew from 2.3 GW to 192 GW, and electronics exports hit $47.96B.
Industrialisation is the work of decades. In a decade unkind to historic laggards, India built capability faster than the world around it @businessline

In 1633, René Descartes was preparing to publish Le Monde, his treatise on physics and cosmology.
Then he heard that Galileo had been condemned for teaching that Earth moves.
Descartes was so alarmed that he wrote to Marin Mersenne that he had almost decided to burn all his papers rather than publish something the Church might condemn.
One scientific trial nearly changed the publication history of another great thinker.
