Is Washington protecting Venezuela's money, or taking it over one asset at a time?
In 2019, Trump's team got Britain to freeze Venezuela's gold. Now Venezuela is close to a deal to move those 31 TONS, worth about $4B, from the Bank of England to the New York Fed. Venezuela won't be allowed to sell it. It can only borrow against it, which means paying interest to use its own gold.
The deal leaked the same day the White House announced Trump would meet Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, and they're meeting in New York this week. It's the same gold Venezuela asked for after June's earthquakes killed more than 6,000 people, when a State Department official told the Senate Venezuela "should have plenty of cash flow."
Based on my investigation, we learned what Washington is actually doing with the Venezuelan money it controls. More than $11 billion in oil money has gone into a U.S. account as an asset that no American court is allowed to touch, Venezuela has to ask our permission to spend it, and its own records show $300 million coming back. The oil went to traders with federal bribery records. The Pentagon went into business with a Maduro-era oilman whose money laundering case was closed as the deal was happening. A Trump donor's company just signed on to develop a block holding an estimated 30 billion barrels, and a Venezuelan banker got a pardon after $3.5 million went to the president's super PAC.
I would have never gone down this rabbit hole had I not watched Scott Bessent testify and notice his answer to the Venezuelan funds was off.

“ I just attended the Florida Policy Summit last week and Amendment 3 was on the agenda.
This is a scam and a tax shift.
This amendment will cut our services and raise our costs.
The money that DeSantis says is in surplus is separate from what Amendment 3 is about.
Amendment 3 is LOCAL TAXES.
The taxes we pay for our counties goes to Tallahassee where they are then sent back to the counties, but less taxes means we get less money to pay for necessary things.
Here is what is at stake: Public Safety, Hospitals, Disaster Recovery, Kids/Seniors & Veterans - cuts to programs that help our neighbors, and renters and small businesses will pay more as taxes shift. The police, the firemen, and the hospitals DO NOT support this!

A developer built an app that alerts you when camera glasses are nearby.
It’s called ZuckOff.
The free iPhone and Android app scans Bluetooth signals from Ray-Ban Meta, Snap and other smart glasses, then estimates how close they are.
The developer says he built it after seeing how people were using the glasses.

“With all due respect I disagree wholeheartedly with the recent guest column by Sarasota land planner Bruce Franklin ("Let's stop treating Sarasota developers like villains," Sept. 13).
Franklin didn't address the real reasons why Sarasota residents want a halt to development.
Yes, I've lived here for more than 50 years, but it's irresponsible to keep developing at a reckless pace.
Our roads are so congested now that it's ridiculous, and they didn't use to be this way.
🎯We lack the infrastructure to accommodate our existing population, much less a population that will continue to grow.
🎯The aquifer is being asked to do more than it should be, and we have droughts that are magnified because of this.
So where will the water come from?
When will we add more lanes to our already maxed-out roads?
None of these issues are being addressed.
Our quality of life won't improve with more development.
In fact, quite the opposite will happen.
So let's get to the real reason why we continue to overdevelop our community.

Kentucky State University student-athlete Aminata Seck has been in ICE custody since August after being detained while traveling with her basketball team.
According to the Courier Journal, Seck, 26, was taken into custody at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Aug. 7 as the Kentucky State basketball team prepared to travel to New York for a tournament. Since her detention, attorney Sadiqa Reynolds says Seck has been moved between multiple facilities.
Seck, who also attended Langston University, is currently dealing with an ACL injury and, according to Reynolds, has struggled to receive consistent access to ice and medical attention while in custody.
Reynolds told the Courier Journal that Seck may have missed a student visa deadline while dealing with back surgery. The newspaper reported that its attempts to obtain comment from ICE were unsuccessful.
“She needs surgery. She needs medical attention,” Reynolds said in a social media post cited by the Courier Journal.
Kentucky State told the Courier Journal that it did not have information to share out of respect for the privacy of those involved, while Reynolds praised KSU head coach Amani Williams for advocating for Seck throughout the situation.
