Running competitor analysis once a year isn't strategy. Redo it every 2 months: - New keywords they're ranking for - Where they're getting links - How search behaviour is shifting Markets move faster than annual plans.

People told me not to post cars because it's bad for business. One of our biggest clients came from a car post. Happy Friday!

Black Friday is 4 weeks away. If you haven't started on SEO for it, here's where I'd spend the time. 1. Get your Black Friday page live now. One permanent URL you reuse every year. Link it from the homepage so Google finds it before the rush. 2. Fix what's already ranking. Your best collection pages will do more for you than anything new you publish this month. 3. Check indexation. If half your products aren't indexed, they won't sell no matter how good the discount is. 4. Check speed on your category pages. That's where Black Friday shoppers land, on mobile, in a hurry. 5. Don't change URLs or relaunch the site in November. Any migration risk lands right in your biggest month. SEO won't save a bad offer. But it will make sure a good one actually gets seen.
Your Black Friday page should already be live. Not on 20 November. Now. - One permanent URL, reused every year (no /black-friday-2026) - Linked from your homepage and nav - Indexed before the rush, not during it Google needs time to find it, trust it and rank it. 4 weeks is tight. 1 week is too late.

Halloween question for founders: What's the scariest thing you've found on your own website? Mine: a new client came to us, and in the first audit we found their entire site set to noindex. Nobody had noticed.

Old blog posts could be quietly killing your rankings. No warning. No deindexing. Just a graveyard of outdated content dragging down how Google sees your whole site. Start here: pull your GSC report, sort by impressions over the last 12 months, and look at everything sitting at zero or near zero that's still indexed. Then ask three questions of each page. Is it still accurate? Still relevant? Is there a better page on your site covering the same ground? Most sites will find more than they'd like to admit. We broke this down on our latest Slice & Dice episode: how to find the content dragging your site down, and when to update, consolidate, or remove it. Full breakdown in the comments (link in replies).

The 100k-volume keyword is not your friend. The boring long-tail one is where the sales are.

Black Friday SEO doesn't start in November. It started last year.

Their new website was ready to launch. It would have wiped out their rankings. A UK fireworks retailer came to us mid-redesign. The project was behind schedule, and nobody was watching the SEO. When we reviewed the new templates, headings were gone, internal links were gone, and important content had been removed. Nobody did it on purpose. Designers design. Developers build. SEO falls through the gap.

Here's what we did before launch: We took over project coordination and got the timeline back on track. We audited the new templates and put back every SEO element that was missing. We ran a full pre-launch check covering indexing rules, schema, metadata, URLs and canonicals. We caught noindex tags that had crept back onto core pages and fixed them within 48 hours. Affected rankings were fully back within 7 days. Then we moved on to growth: stronger collection pages, better internal linking, new niche product pages. The result: page 1 for every core term, including keywords that used to sit on page 10. Organic now drives 66% of site traffic. A redesign should make your site better, not invisible.

3,000 products live. 1,200 indexed. That gap tells you more than any keyword tool. Before we talk content with a new client, we: - Crawl the whole site - Compare it with what's actually indexed in Search Console - Check page speed on category pages No point planning content if Google can't reach half your products.

A competitor in the top 3 doesn't mean the keyword is hard. Open their page. Look for: - Outdated design - Thin content - Missing schema A weak page in a strong position means the real ceiling is lower than the difficulty score says. Don't out-muscle strong pages. Outclass weak ones.
