Scientists who previously worked on fusion inside the U.S. nuclear labs and their colleagues built the private company Pacific Fusion. Now the government is turning to their new machines for help conducting research on its nuclear arsenal.

China is investing ~$10B in fusion facilities serving both its energy and weapons programs. Meanwhile, the U.S. still relies on aging national labs with no succession plan.
@DavidFeith and Abigail Remler argue in @wapo that fusion should be funded the same way NASA helped fund SpaceX – focusing on milestone-based contracts, not blank checks.

CTO & Co-Founder @lechienkeith explains how net facility gain is the milestone we are pursuing – for the FIRST TIME – to unlock clean fusion power.

Pacific Fusion Co-Founder and Chief Scientist Will Regan met with @NNSAWilliams in D.C. ahead of last week’s @WhiteHouse science summit.
Thank you, Administrator Williams, for your continued support as we work to make clean, reliable fusion a reality in the United States!
We were honored to attend the Science: A New Golden Age Summit at the @WhiteHouse last week.
@WHOSTP47 Director @mkratsios47 underscored fusion’s role in the future of U.S. energy production, noting the roadmap’s goal of “commercial fusion activity by mid 2030s” ⤵️
Public-private partnerships are essential to advancing fusion and securing American energy leadership.
Thank you Reps. @RepZoeLofgren & @JayObernolte for introducing the bipartisan American Leadership in Fusion Act, which puts these valuable partnerships into focus to accelerate the commercialization of fusion energy. We were proud to endorse it.

We need stories of American greatness to inspire people.
Companies like @_Pacific_Fusion exemplify that kind of story.
The Manhattan Project won us WWII.
That became the DOE National Labs, whose research on fusion will be used to solve some of biggest challenges today.

🏆 Pacific Fusion named 2026 Urban Project of the Year!
Thank you to New Mexico IDEA for this award and the recognition of our investment in the state. Since coming to New Mexico in 2025, our Fusion Factory in Los Lunas has created more than 75 jobs, with 95% of these roles filled by New Mexicans. Last month, we broke ground on our $1B Research and Manufacturing Campus in Albuquerque, and once construction is complete, it is estimated to add 200 more high-wage jobs to the state.
We’re proud to be building the fusion ecosystem in New Mexico.

Glad to see @WSJ cover what we're building at @_Pacific_Fusion. PF is central to an American-built economy. 🇺🇸
As China spends over $10B on inertial fusion in an attempt to surpass the U.S. in commercial energy and national security applications, Pacific Fusion is building the Demonstration System in Albuquerque to achieve net facility gain – a fundamental gate for rapidly deployable and scalable fusion energy. PF’s tech will additionally give defense scientists the data to safely maintain and modernize our nuclear deterrent without explosive testing.
I'm proud that Pacific Fusion is the first private fusion company to codify an MOU with @NNSANews, and that our team is building on decades of national lab breakthroughs to deliver this capability for the country.
Facing a three-way arms race with Russia and China, the U.S. is turning to nuclear-fusion startup @_Pacific_Fusion to turbocharge its weapons
