During my visits to El Salvador over the past few years, I’ve spent a lot of time in this exact spot. So I found this video powerful -- and accurate. I feel safer there than in the best areas of New York City.
It should never be forgotten that this transformation had critics, most of whom have gone silent.
El Salvador is rightly famed for its strides on public order, but most people don’t grasp the brutal extent of previous gang rule or the complex dividends peace affords. All kinds of mundane and essential public goods re-materialize now that people can walk around, ride transit, and go about their lives without being terrorized.
This historic square used to be patrolled by warring gangs, and housed an informal economy of corrugated-tin shanties where subsistence street vendors forfeited much of their meager income to “protection” rackets. No formal economy is possible if thugs might burn or smash or sabotage any capital improvement you make. Now, there are ordinary shops lining this downtown area — and even early Christmas decorations.

More than 2,000 years ago, Aristotle laid out the foundational ideas of Western civilization: the Poetics, which taught us how to tell a story, and the Ethics and Politics, where he defined the essential nature of sound money.
Money, he observed: must be durable, portable, divisible, and scarce.
For centuries, empires rose when they honored those principles - and collapsed when they abandoned them. Devaluing currency, borrowing against the future, and eroding the character of the citizenry led every single one to decadence, ruin, and historical irrelevance.
Then came Bitcoin.
Bitcoin takes Aristotle’s framework to near perfection: programmatic scarcity, near-infinite divisibility, and incorruptible durability across time and space. Pure, peer-to-peer electronic cash.
Then came "cRyPTo."
And shitcoiners gazed upon this marvel of human ingenuity and decided that what the world ackshually needed was not permissionless, unconfiscatable, decentralized money, but a centralized Rube Goldberg machine of faster, "more efficient" payments built on a layer cake of third parties, pre-mined tokens, and infinite degeneracy.
El Salvador is Bitcoin Country for a reason. We intend to win for generations to come.

Bukele says that starts next year, about $3B, plus 50,000 scholarships already in motion.
This year’s education budget is still around $1.68B.
The Assembly has until 30 September to see if 2027 actually carries that load.
The crime half of the story is already on the board.
Killings went from 6,656 in 2015 to 82 last year and 42 so far in 2026.
That is the crackdown people mean when they talk about a 98% drop from the old peak.
Elon has been in this for a while, and xAI is already in Salvadoran classrooms.
Bukele’s pitch now is simple: the gangs are in prison, so spend the peace on kids. The best bet for the future.
