In a recent conversation on Josh Smith’s Great Chat Show, BAFTA-winning actress Naomi Ackie spoke candidly about the realities of being a woman of colour in the entertainment industry
“We've been saying it for years, no one cares... and just in every industry, I think there is this weird thing that happens where the expectations of you as whatever your job role is, are much higher. Like you have to do a lot more to prove yourself.
Why is the phone not ringing as much? I did this, what I thought was a really cool thing. I won a BAFTA. Why is it not hitting in the same way? And it causes a lot of self-doubt.
You have to really motivate yourself, and what ends up happening, what I experienced, was like a lot of like, 'You're amazing, you're amazing,' but then never like a kind of return on that. And that makes you put a lot of pressure on yourself. If you're already a perfectionist, that just makes it so much worse.
And it also makes you really mad, and angry, and watchful, hypervigilant. Then when you do get a job, you are applying so much pressure to get it perfect, to try and reach that mountaintop. But the goalposts keep moving. Women of colour inhabit a space that is very unique, that they're both women, and they are people of colour. It's angering.
I've almost surrendered to it. It's frustrating and needs to be changed. But within the system we live in, I don't see that happening anytime soon. So instead now what I'm doing is doing my work really well, being myself, not putting pressure on myself, and doing what I want."

I need to understand what on earth is going on in these prisons because why do so many women working in them do stuff like this? :S

There's gonna be an insane crises of managers and mid-level corporate staff in 5–10 years. Everyone I speak to in corporate says they're the only young person there, surrounded by people in their 40/ 50s with families.
So where tf are all the young people going?

Soon we’ll start having honest conversations about how unhealthy working traditional office jobs are vis-à-vis modern society. look at your C suites (not the CEOs) then ask how your colleagues how much time they have for well being and fitness/cooking healthy.

Your husbands aren’t saving enough to retire themselves with dignity let alone both of you. Keep working.
I think if you are a married woman with kids who makes a modest salary and your husband is the clear breadwinner and you aren’t someone who is locked in to your career and would be cool staying at home and your husband doesn’t have the forethought to be like “daycare is gonna basically cost your entire salary anyway so just stay at home” he should be tarred and feathered
Honestly, it’s wild that it took an actress saying this out loud for y’all to hear it. Black women have BEEN saying it, & y’all told us to shut up & be grateful for beige skin & loose curls because “Black women come in all shades” when the issue was always COLOURISM & TEXTURISM!

she was treated liked she wasn’t human. People were so vile towards her, it was so sad to experience
The internet is cruel
Cynthia Erivo says she was surprised by the public’s "annoyance" over her close friendship with "Wicked" co-star Ariana Grande, with people questioning why the two were so emotionally connected.
In an interview with The Guardian, Erivo also reflected on the backlash she faced after protecting Grande from a man who rushed them at the "Wicked: For Good" premiere, saying the mockery of her appearance reflected misogyny and racism. The experience left her reluctant to campaign for an Oscar for the sequel, saying she felt her humanity had been “bastardised.”

I have long said this. Seeing someone just being themselves or in their element is how you fall in love.
Going to dinner with someone you find attractive and spending dinner asking yourselves if you like them and if they like you is not.
Very weird ritual we do.
