People will be shocked at "school failure" all the while the school is in an overpoliced food desert w/ crumbling resistantial buildings, in a highly-securitized building, where 4 co-located schools partition staircases & building resources & kids wait an hour on a security line.

ALT Moreover, the societal expectation of Block forgiveness seemed to be endemic to having a fixed skin in the workplace. Fear of black rage spurred, vagrancy and loitering laws, after all. Black forgiveness soothed anxiety that there was not any rage, thus hug your brother‘s murderer, proclaim a church bomber has been forgiven – be gracious and dignified. The question remained; why did I have to build my tolerance threshold to acclimate to a hostile environment but the people creating that environment could remain the same?
Asking for more grace for the person who shouted a racist slur instead of for Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, who had to push through being embarrassed in front of their peers.
But that’s often the expectation — that Black people are just supposed to be ok with being disrespected and dehumanized so that other people don’t feel bad.

Thousands of people detained by ICE are actually held in local, publicly operated jails.
These facilities–run by elected sheriffs–are making money off of the federal government's deportation agenda.

In other states, jails play a part in the detention network alongside federal or private facilities. In Arizona, Delaware, and Hawaii no local jails provide substantial detention space to these agencies.

Since the Supreme Court’s Grants Pass ruling, over 150 cities in 32 states have passed or expanded laws banning homeless encampments.
Most offer no new shelter beds or housing.
Cities are responding to a housing crisis with punishment, not solutions.
