If you email an interpreter asking for availability and a quote then dont get back to them until the day before the booking; don't be surprised if they're no longer available and you can't find anyone. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. #TerpLife

Captions and ASL are not interchangeable. ASL is a language - not everyone is fluent in both ASL/English. For some, offering captioning to replace interpretation is like offering them to someone who only speaks Chinese. When in doubt, always ask what will let someone thrive.

Interpreters need to be aware of their hearing privilege over their Deaf consumers. I’ve seen interpreters harm my loved ones and that caused a spiral in my mental health.
Last night, I had a nightmare of an interpreter who manipulated me for almost 7 years. I specifically requested not to work with that interpreter but somehow she convinced the organizers to hire her. Which is something she would do in real life.
Why is that some people I know who have worked with Deaf people still don’t caption their videos or provide a transcript??? Like, I thought you knew better than that? *shrugs*
