Recently, I worked on the sound and spatial design for Commodity / Couture, Selassie Atadika's project with Midunu Institute presented at the @154artfair at Somerset House, London. It's an installation about cocoa, told through the voices of the farmers in Adumadum who grow it.

The sound follows the farmers in English and Twi, along with the small sounds of the farm they rarely notice. At the centre of the installation sat a brass cocoa pod cast in Kumasi using the Asante lost-wax tradition. I shaped the space so the sound had room to breathe.

There's a speculative side to the work. In a country where so much knowledge is passed on by word of mouth, what happens to a farmer's voice, their knowledge and the sounds of their land once the farm changes hands or the next generation moves on?
