MANHUNT UNDERWAY AFTER OVER 20 ARMED MALE SUSPECTS ALLEGEDLY ROB FOREIGN NATIONALS AND DAMAGE MOTOR VEHICLES IN MAVELE VILLAGE
@SAPoliceService
The South African Police Service (SAPS) at Letsitele in the Mopani District has launched a manhunt for suspects following a series of house robberies and malicious damage to property that occurred at Mavele Village on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at about 01:15.
It is alleged that a 38-year-old female victim was sleeping with her husband at their rented house in Mavele Village when she heard gunshots at the main gate.
Upon peeping through the window, she saw a group of over 20 unknown male suspects armed with firearms and rifles entering the yard.
The suspects allegedly broke the wall next to the door of her house and entered. They pointed firearms at the couple, demanded money and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash, a Samsung plasma TV, a cellphone, a pair of boots, an HP laptop, a pair of Nike sandals and the keys to a metallic silver Volkswagen Tiguan.
The suspects proceeded to six other rented rooms in the same yard, where they broke open doors and robbed male victims aged between 26 and 43 of cash, cellphones and a pair of Nike takkies.
In total, seven counts of house robbery were committed during the incident.
After the robberies, the suspects allegedly fired several shots and damaged the tyres of six motor vehicles parked inside the yard.
They fled the scene in a white Toyota Hilux Legend 35 bakkie belonging to a 38-year-old female victim. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Mavele Village.
Cases of seven counts of house robbery and six counts of malicious damage to property have been opened.
A manhunt for the suspects is underway. Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is requested to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Junior Maake, on 072 869 8100, CrimeStop on 08600 10111, their nearest police station or the MySAPSApp.
Police investigations are continuing.
“Only immigration authorities can deal with immigration matters”
Immigration authorities;
UPDATE: An Immigration Officer from the Department of Home Affairs earlier today admitted to the Durban Magistrate’s Court that their asylum application records system is shambolic.
The officer told the court that every time the system updates, it "deletes" the old information, and as such, they end up with no proper records about asylum applications and renewals.
The official was called by the NPA/State to bolster its case to refuse bail to three Ethiopian nationals facing attempted murder charges stemming from the incident in the Durban CBD three weeks ago were there was torching of cars and properties after they allegedly assaulted a South African man.
The Court eventually freed the three Ethiopians on bail of R5000 each after it was found that the Home Affairs records cannot be relied upon to prove that one of the suspects was in the country illegally - KZN Tonight Podcast

NPA SECURES RESTRAINT ORDER OVER R99 MILLION IN ASSETS LINKED TO ALLEGED EXTORTION SYNDICATE
A provisional restraint order over asets currently estimated at R99 million, linked to Joe Sibanyoni and others who are alleged to be involved in organised criminal activities, including extortion has been secured.
BREAKTHROUGH BY: The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), through its Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in Mpumalanga, in collaboration with the NPA’s Organised Crime Unit and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
On 28 September 2026, the AFU obtained an uncapped provisional restraint order from the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court, Middelburg, in terms of section 26 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998 (POCA).
The order emanates from ongoing investigations by SAPS into alleged criminal activities involving extortion and related offences linked to Sibanyoni and others.
The restrained assets comprise movable and immovable property currently estimated at R99 million. The restraint order was obtained on the basis that the assets constitute realisable property and represent benefits allegedly derived from criminal activities.
The assets include properties in exclusive golf estates in Centurion, as well as several houses and estate properties in Centurion and Pretoria. Luxury motor vehicles subject to the order include Ferraris, a Porsche, a Lexus, Mercedes-Benz vehicles and BMWs.
The defendants are also required to surrender various bank accounts and investments to the curator appointed by the court.
The restraint order advances one of the key objectives of POCA, namely to deprive persons of the proceeds and benefits of crime.
Organised crime, in its various forms, poses a serious threat to South Africa’s economy and communities. If left unchecked, extortion and related criminal activities undermine legitimate businesses, discourage investment and impede economic growth.
