The woman who wants to run Berlin wrote in the margins of a Spiegel interview that she and her husband are afraid of Hamas sympathizers in the city, and asked her team if they could cancel the whole interview.
Her office sent the notes to Spiegel by mistake.
The man she was afraid to name is Ibrahim Ibrahim, a PFLP supporter who called Sinwar, the man who led the October 7th massacres a "martyr hero." He showed up at her party's victory celebration in Neukölln. Days later he flew to Istanbul for a conference with Hamas-linked figures.
Berlin's own intelligence service lists the group he works for as a Hamas support organization.
Elif Eralp won the election on September 20. Her party doubled its vote. She is now negotiating with the Greens and SPD to become governing mayor, which means she would be responsible for the city's police and security.
The police advised her not to name names. If the candidate for mayor is too scared to say out loud who is intimidating her, the people doing the intimidating already have more power in Berlin than the people who are supposed to govern it.

Few will remember this, but people were furious at Nate for being too bullish on Trump BEFORE the election, then immediately pivoted to being furious at him AFTER the election for failing to warn that Trump could win.
Listened to Nate Silver on Ezra this morning. One of the least popular things I could do on this website is defend Nate Silver, so challenge accepted.
His "vibes" have been directionally correct in every Election. In 2012, he fought against the polling unskewers making claims that Romney would win based on undersampling of Republicans.
In 2016, his model was famously FAR more bullish on Trump than any others. He was the only modeler who understood the possibility of correlated polling error.
In 2020, he repeatedly emphasized the higher than usual uncertainty due to the pandemic.
In 2022, he fought back against pollsters (NY Times!) basically ignoring their own data to buy into the Red Wave.
In 2024, he said that even though his model was 50/50, his gut said Trump would win.
All in all, a better record than anyone else on Election Twitter.

I must be among an extremely small group of people (n=1?) that have both 1) trained a frontier LLM and 2) designed and synthesized custom viruses in a lab with my own two hands.
And I think that the takes on AI killing us all by creating dangerous viruses is total bogus.
I’m no expert on any aspect of this, but I’m going to go ahead and say this is a mistaken take on Clavicular
My impression (as the father of a teenage boy) is that Clavicular became popular first and foremost among *boys* for addressing their insecurities and offering a perceived solution
It’s his resulting celebrity that makes him attractive to a certain type of woman—groupies, essentially. Many are aspiring influencers/models/etc themselves, hoping to benefit from access to his audience. Others may simply think it would be a fun experience to meet him and have access to his parties and social sphere
Of course he’s going to keep looksmaxxing because that’s what his celebrity is based on, but it would be a mistake to infer from this that regular guys should also focus entirely on looksmaxxing and disregard the importance of personality, lifestyle, etc

As one of the candidates featured in these polls - the infamous one in late June that showed me plummeting into single digits (which was at odds with our internals) - here's the impact of this "experiment"
- Donations dried up
- Volunteers were devastated and pleading for guidance on what to do
- Reporters hounded me with calls to drop out
Sure, a point was proven. Polling is broken. But tens of thousands of people poured their hearts, time, energy, hard-earned money into something they believed in - for a year-and-a-half, and it was treated like a game. Our volunteers gave their all. And then some. I felt like I had let so many of them down.
To be extremely clear, Michigan Democrats are locked in to beat Mike Rogers. We WILL send @AbdulElSayed to the US Senate.
But between crap like this, endless fundraising texts that drive supporters away with spammy fake deadlines and trash "match" claims, scam PACs run rampant for firms to grift without actually supporting candidates, undisclosed content creators pushing content out either misrepresenting themselves as residents of states they don't live in or hiding whether they were paid and by who so they could make a buck, and the tidal wave of dark money ads -- I hope Democrats are ready to blow up the system with campaign finance and transparency reforms.
Trust is already at an all-time low. We don't get out of this mess without rebuilding trust.
And media - who loves to ride the drama of a pollercoaster - needs to take a hard look at what's legitimate and what's not.
If this teaches us anything - DON'T GET COMPLACENT AND DON'T TRUST THE POLLS.
LOCK IN. SIGN UP FOR A CANVASSING SHIFT. LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.

I was torn between McMorrow and Abdul, but when the Wedgewood poll came out showing McMorrow down to single digits, she lost all momentum and dropped out, so I supported and voted for Abdul.
The poll was fake. Wedgewood also committed wire fraud, receiving over $10,000 in donations for polling that they weren’t conducting.
Wedgewood polls undoubtedly altered the primary outcome, and cost Haley Stevens the race, and sabotaged the McMorrow campaign. The polling industry is fundamentally broken and the people behind Wedgewood polls (we know who you are) should be prosecuted and thrown in prison.

“The Simpsons” was a beloved animated sitcom that ran for ten legendary seasons and concluded in 1999. The show was celebrated for what was widely perceived as a near perfect run that wrapped before it wore out its concept and overstayed its welcome.
Creator Matt Groening and showrunner James L. Brooks famously decided to bring the show to a conclusion after experiencing the negative audience reaction to the season 9 episode “The Principal and the Pauper,” in which it was revealed that the school’s principal was actually an impostor who had stolen the real Seymour Skinner’s identity. Brooks did not want to sully the show’s legacy by doing a bunch of weird episodes as the franchise slid into mediocrity and cultural irrelevance, so the writers and cast decided instead to go out on top and end things on a high note.
However, because of its centrality in 90s pop culture, a long-running Internet joke is to pretend “The Simpsons” is still on the air, a premise that gets more absurd and deranged with each passing year. If this show were still producing new episodes, it would be in its 38th season now, and most of the voice cast would be in their 80s.
The joke is to imagine how distorted this charming show would have become if it had been stretched out to more than 800 episodes. Comedy posters on “weird Twitter” used to try to top each other by making up terrible ideas for what modern episodes of the show might be like.
For example, a viral 2012 tweet imagined an episode where Lady Gaga helps Lisa Simpson with her self esteem. In 2019, popular shitposter Megan Amram originated the premise of Bart Simpson becoming a men’s rights activist to protest a gender-swapped reboot of “Itchy and Scratchy.”
But perhaps the most elaborate Internet “Simpsons” joke was a 2017 YouTube mockumentary “The Problem With Apu,” in which the comedian Hari Kondabolu ironically pretended to be offended by the charming and innocuous convenience store owner character Apu.
Everyone thought this was hilarious, especially since the show had been off the air for nearly two decades when the mockumentary was released. So, Twitter ran with the joke by pretending to “cancel” Apu, and the viral gag memorably resulted in the character’s voice actor, Hank Azaria, recognizing the meme by promising never to perform the character again, which everybody thought was really funny since Azaria had been retired for years.
Now, nearly a decade later, fans are pretending that the show — which has now been off the air longer than most people tweeting about it have been alive— has brought back the “cancelled” character with a new racially-appropriate voice actor.
I actually don’t think this is that funny, and I kind of think the gag of pretending “The Simpsons” is still airing new episodes has overstayed its welcome, a mistake the actual show “The Simpsons” would never have made.
If you haven’t seen this 1990s classic, which — and I cannot emphasize this enough — ended after 10 seasons in 1999, you can watch all the episodes on Disney+ (except the one with Michael Jackson that got pulled from streaming).
Talib Shakir, a 50-year-old DC government official, died when his illegal hyperscooter, able to go over five times as fast as the 10 mph speed limit, collided with a Lime scooter, and he was thrown to the street. He wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Shakir shot to death a cabdriver in 1991, and was “sentenced” to a rural residential facility without fences or guards. He naturally escaped, and, within a couple of weeks, shot to death a 23-year-old Korean student working as a Petworth store clerk during a 1993 robbery. Somehow ended free, and got funded by taxpayers in a phony-baloney job as an adult, but was still a sociopath on the road and who knows where else. Fortunately, he died from his own unhelmeted carelessness before his wildly unsafe hyperscooter killed a third person.

"what if AI gets so smart that it's smarter than even the president of the united states" truly it would be super intelligence
Sam Altman: What happens when AI gets so smart that even the President can’t do better than following its recommendations?
“What if the President cannot do better than following ChatGPT 7’s recommendation, but can’t really understand it either?”
“What if I just say, ‘ChatGPT 7, you are in charge. Good luck.’”
“Society has collectively transitioned a significant part of decision-making to this very powerful system.”
“That’s how I think things can go wrong.”
