Arguing that "consciousness arises from a computational substrate, and since AI models are computation, they are likely conscious," is as meaningless as arguing that "living creatures are made of atoms, and since this rock is made of atoms, it is likely alive." Everything is computation. Sometimes incredibly sophisticated computation, like a chess engine, AlphaGo, google3, or the Linux kernel. That does not make it conscious. A rock being made of atoms does not confer it any of the properties we associate with living things, also made of atoms. Likewise a static input-output program that has *none* of the properties we associate with conscious beings (e.g. information integration, interoception, temporal binding, embodiment, etc.) has no more reason to be presumed conscious than a rock has to be presumed alive. Humanity has not yet created a conscious computer program, and there are no signs we are close to doing so. When we get close, the case for machine consciousness will be backed by evidence and corroborated by consciousness science (which is a thing), not by evidence-free wishful thinking and cargo culting.

So cuteeee
today we’re launching eyecandy robotics! we’re bringing animated characters to life through robotics and ai.

I wonder how much of the benefit due to multi token prediction and action chunking are due to the same underlying reasons. Need to re-read Sergey Levine's paper on why action chunking works.

Thanks Ryan for coming by! This was a fun chat.
Sergey Levine (@svlevine) is one of the world's top robotics researchers and co-founder of Physical Intelligence. We talked about where humanoid robotics is today, thoughts on the Chinese robotics ecosystem, and his predictions for future timelines. In this episode: • Current state of robotics and surprising capabilities so far • Chinese robotics compared to US ecosystem • If OpenAI and Anthropic got into robotics • His top robotics research paper recommendation • Predictions for when humanoid robotics will land Where to watch: • YouTube - youtu.be/9OSbaPjv0Rc • Spotify - open.spotify.com/episode/19a… • Apple Podcasts - podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… • Transcript - developing.dev/p/sergey-levi… Thank you to the sponsor of this episode for supporting my work: • WorkOS: makes your app Enterprise Ready with easy to use APIs to add SSO, SCIM, RBAC, and more in just a few lines of code, check them out at workos.com/ Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:37 Where are we today 04:20 Most surprising capabilities so far 07:03 The most inspiring real world robotics 08:36 If OpenAI or Anthropic got into robotics 10:22 Chinese robotics 13:15 Will one lab breakout from the rest 16:59 Thoughts on a concrete roadmap 21:03 Generalization and demonstrating it 26:04 Types of data and which is best for robotics 34:34 Why humanoid robotics differs from Waymo 37:10 If humanoid robotics failed here is why 39:55 Are there hot take modeling architectures in robotics 42:05 Thoughts on AI safety in robotics 46:44 Top robotics research paper recommendation 49:35 Why is Boston Dynamics less top of mind 53:47 Advice for his younger self 56:42 Outro

Lerobots by hf is so ass bruh. Like I can't benchmark any of their models(consistent 0% success rate) and there are many similar issues on their github. Fuck VLAs. WAM is my new best friend.

Literally me
I’m an AI researcher and engineer but I am NOT a nerd. You are, not me. I’m a genius of all things STEM yes but so is everyone in San Francisco. I’ve differentiated myself from you all and have become better. I dress better than all of you. I know expensive clothing brands that you don’t yes. My music taste is exquisite yes yes the other nerds only listen to slop. I know about literature and art that engineers don’t because I’m better. I have opinions about how we need more culture in San Francisco yes because your low prestige engineering nerd culture does not count. Mmm. Yes I consume the best products that show my creative genius yes yes. God my personal website is just so much better than yours. Even my apartment is better decorated than everyone else’s. Fashion literature film travel art music wine food architecture writing writing writing I am more than the precocious nerd genius that only I think I am yes yes yes
