I’ve been working on this quietly for a while, so it’s pretty cool to finally have the @CardsAndClubs Invitational out publicly.
A big part of why I wanted to build it is the connection between golf and poker. They have a lot more in common than people might think. Patience, strategy, decision-making, risk management, confidence and composure under pressure all matter in both.
We’re building an experience around golf, poker, hospitality, relationships and content, with the goal of bringing together people and organizations that may not otherwise spend meaningful time together.
But just as important, both create the kind of environment where people have time to compete, talk, laugh and actually get to know each other. That’s really where I see the value in CCI for brands.
We’re now growing the inaugural field. A few invitations are already out, a couple of Founding Teams are committed, and we’re having some really interesting conversations about who else will be part of the first one.

Story:
The unknown story behind the World Series of Poker on ESPN.
The WSOP has just returned to ESPN, but not everyone knows the true poker history.
ESPN first started using the hole cam in 2002.
Then in 2003, amateur poker player Chris Moneymaker wins the WSOP Main Event for $2.5 million.
The ratings were good, but ESPN thought it was just a fluke.
“ESPN was like, ‘that has to be one of those ratings statistical blips,’” revealed executive producer Matt Maranz.
They didn’t think it would last.
“They would try at two in morning, four in the morning, ten at night, and no matter where they re-aired it, it was getting big ratings.” said Maranz.
3rd-place finisher & famed poker author Dan Harrington asked why they kept showing it for the 120th time.
To which an ESPN producer replied, “It beat hockey.”

I know I’ve taken a bit of a break from posting consistently, but sometimes life has a way of pulling you in different directions. During that time, I’ve been working behind the scenes on some really exciting projects, continuing to grow my game, and thinking a lot about the kind of content I want to create for all of you.
The good news? I’m back. Still slowly getting my feet wet again. But, I’m back to try my best :)
I’ve got a lot planned, and you’ll be seeing videos much more regularly again very soon. More poker, more strategy, more vlogs, more behind-the-scenes moments, and plenty of fun along the way.
