4 Men killed the Cat Schmotzer, filmed everything and uploaded it on Social Media.

On April 30, 2026, four young men (aged between 16 and 25) killed the cat "Schmotzer" in Brixen im Thale (Tyrol), Austria.
Schmotzer was a 5-year-old orange and white cat who had no owner, but was said to have been very lovingly cared for.
Those involved filmed the horrific act with a mobile phone.
One of the defendants, who was training to be a butcher, used a captive-bolt pistol on the cat. The animal was then killed with a knife slash and beaten with a shovel, among other things. The video showed and audio captured the men laughing at Schmotzer's suffering.
The video was uploaded and shared, quickly going viral. In May 2026, it caused public outrage followed by massive protests.
The public prosecutor's office charged the four men with animal cruelty pursuant to Section 222 of the Austrian Criminal Code (StGB).
In court, however, the men claimed they had no malicious intent, stating they had merely found the cat severely injured by the roadside. They claimed their only intention was to "put Schmotzer out of its misery."
A veterinary expert report was commissioned. After inspecting the video, the following finding was made:
Schmotzer twitched after the captive-bolt shot, but the expert explained that these could have been spinal cord muscle spasms, and consequently, it could not be legally proven beyond a reasonable doubt whether the cat still felt pain after the captive-bolt shot. In the video, it looked like a desperate struggle for survival.
On August 4, 2026, the Regional Court of Innsbruck acquitted all four defendants of the charge of animal cruelty. The offense of animal cruelty requires intent to torment (malicious cruelty). Since the court could not disprove the defendants' claim that they acted with the (subjective) good intention of "delivering" the animal, the principle of in dubio pro reo (benefit of the doubt) applied.
The public prosecutor present waived her right to legal remedies right there in the courtroom. This meant that the criminal verdict was legally binding immediately and could no longer be appealed. The perpetrators were thus acquitted.
In September 2026, the Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons called upon the Office of the Prosecutor General to file a plea of nullity for the preservation of the law in order to have the verdict reviewed. However, at the end of September 2026, the Prosecutor General's Office rejected this, seeing no grounds for appeal.
Even though the men are free from criminal liability, the Kitzbühel district authority initiated administrative penalty proceedings in August 2026 for violating the Animal Welfare Act (Section 6 TSchG – prohibition of killing without a reasonable cause). This could result in fines of up to 7,500 euros for those involved.
Rumors of a second video are circulating on social media, allegedly showing that the cat ran towards the four men uninjured.
Star lawyer Sascha Flatz is advocating for cat Schmotzer and demanding stricter penalties in animal cruelty cases.
While the incident went viral, hate speech and hostility were directed against the perpetrators, the defense attorney, the judge, and the region.

Social media personality who tortures kittens to death under the pretext of "training" them.
Abuser Name: Derlis Antonio López Mereles
Slammed his girlfriend's cat onto the ground, killing it. Subsequently lost his job and charged with animal cruelty and domestic violence, but there have been no updates on his case since.
His studies have been suspended due to his illness, and shortly afterward, the university ordered his entire family to leave the campus to ensure the safety of their students.
He claimed that he cannot be held legally responsible for his actions because he is a minor and because he only killed a stray. He also claimed to be suffering from severe depression.

He also taunted teachers and students, admitted to having had tortured cats before and to stealing takeout that had been delivered to the public security office.
He acted extremely arrogantly after being confronted.

Abuser Name: Unknown - 'Guangxi U Abuser'
Minor and middle school student who tortured and killed a beloved campus stray. He left the body outside the girls' dormitory at Guangxi University alongside a note that read "I like to torture cats".

Hamlin then went on to join the Marine Corps and become the chief executive officer of the National Rifle Association.
He was charged alongside four other individuals for his failure to prevent the incident as fraternity president.
The charges were expunged from their record after completing 200 hours of mandated community service.

Pleaded no contest to the capture, torture, and killing of a University of Michigan fraternity house cat in 1979. Hamlin's role in the killing is not known.

After the wife claimed a mother cat was 'bullying' her, the husband brutally slammed the cat to the ground multiple times,killing it. The wife praised her husband for being such a strong man. The kittens were rescued afterwards by volunteers
Abuser Name: Unknown - 'Geelong Abuser'
Australian man seen hurling a cat against a wall in a video uploaded to social media. The cat is no longer in the man's possession.
Abuser Name: David Mosley
He tortured and killed a cat in his Bronx apartment in fall 2025 before threatening to sacrifice more animals on Halloween. He tried to claim the cat was already dead when he brought it into his home, and that the killing was a joke.
Two years Prison.
Abuser Name: Duyên Võ
Vietnamese woman who filmed herself slowly butchering a dog. She shoved a piece of wood into the dog's bound mouth and bound the dog's genitalia with wire. Under Vietnamese law, she was free to do with the dog as she wished because it was her 'property'.
Abuser Name: Chen Xaolin/肖霖
Member: Chengdu, Sichuan Political Consultative Office alleged to have paid high fees to adopt dogs to torture&kill. A dozen dogs were adopted The dogs were found with broken hernia,teeth pulled,anal bleeding, bloodshot eyes, and shattered pelvises.
LeGresley was also responsible for onboarding new members, archiving content, and setting up polls where the group vote on torture methods for upcoming videos.
LeGresley and Orme were sentenced to two years and 15 months in prison.
Abuser Names: Holly LeGresley & Adriana Orme
Core members of the American-based monkey torture ring, with LeGresley being an admin.
They worked directly under ringleader Michael Macartney/'Torture King' in commissioning monkey torture content by hiring Indonesian VideoOperator
He has never expressed any remorse for his actions, but hopes the internet will forgive him. He apparently continues to taunt those aware of his crimes by joking that he has adopted more cats.
Abuser Name: Matías Ignacio Vera Oyarzo - 'Peluchin Entertainment'
Chilean YouTuber who posted a video of him fatally abusing his pet cat. A second video showed him throwing a kitten into a dirty toilet bowl, which he later claimed ended up drowning.
