A powerful and moving essay by @maureendowd about Jeff Schmalz, who wrote about AIDS for the New York Times before his death at 39. He was an extraordinary reporter and editor — and critical in The Times’ transformation on gay life in the newsroom . nytimes.com/2026/10/20/healt…
“I am on the spectrum, OK?” he said. “I’m self-aware. I am on the spectrum!” Wow. Stop the presses, @RahmEmanuel! Great piece by @ShaneGoldmacher. nytimes.com/2026/09/26/us/po… via @NYTimes

I updated my story on Dr. Fauci’s diary to reflect Secretary Kennedy’s disclosure that it was written on a government computer. You can read it here: nytimes.com/2026/07/27/us/po…
Replying to @SecKennedy
Our journalists have been covering Dr. Fauci's Senate appearance for days, and this article published before Secretary Kennedy disclosed he had given Senator Paul the records, or that they came from a government computer. Once the secretary announced this in a social media post, we updated the reporting and linked to Kennedy's new statement.
