An #NIHRBRCLeicester study suggests virtual wards could offer a promising alternative to hospital admission for some acute atrial fibrillation patients.
The study, was led by cardiovascular experts at the @uniofleicester . It showed that patients with atrial fibrillation who received care virtually via an electronic tablet and remote monitoring equipment, experienced similar outcomes to those receiving standard inpatient care.
Furthermore, the study funded by the Health Innovation East Midlands Evaluation Fund and British Heart Foundation suggests that the potential cost saving associated with this came to £642 per patient.

Our @BcsPresident @g_andre_ng welcomed today's publication of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan and its focus on plans to:
- tackle inequalities in access to prevention, diagnosis and treatments
- invest and increase use of digital technology to aid in early diagnosis and treatments
- commit to primary prevention by working to reduce risks such as smoking and obesity
We'll provide a fuller response to the plan over the coming weeks and consider the implications for cardiovascular care delivery.
