I said it to a guy at a hotel breakfast area once when I was with my daughter. He shot up out of his chair and standing straight said “I’d do it again.” I was so overcome with his answer I could barely talk. I’m glad my daughter witnessed it.
KC Jones was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in basketball and football. Few know he was a basketball star in the Army and was known as a “hard-nose guard.” In 1958 he was named to Fort Leonard Wood’s basketball All-Star team, which included Maurice King, Carl Cain, Joe Bertrand, Walt Larkins, and others. He was named MVP of the All-Star squad. Mr. Jones, by all accounts, was well-like by his teammates and the players he coached. A gentleman.
I’m working on a second edition to my Forgotten Athletes book (hardcover), and despite my previous extensive research, I keep coming up with new service athlete connections to major college and pro ball. In fact there are so many names people might know I’m making a separate section to highlight selected athlete personalities. The 1950s were a stunning time when it came to military sports, football in particular.
I don’t know much about soccer, but why didn’t anyone tell me that watching France is like watching Michael Jordan in basketball. Watching most of the other teams is like watching Uwe Blab. 🤷🏻♂️
