What if the first thing AI language-learning platforms tell us is that we are not good enough?
In our new open-access article in @OUPAcademic's Applied Linguistics, Ozgehan Ustuk and I examine 385 ads targeting social media users across Meta’s platforms to pursue a simple Q:
We hope to complicate the ongoing AI hype, FOMO, and “revolution” talk by looking at a dimension that often gets less attention: advertising and marketing… After all, the narrative surrounding these platforms is being built one carefully targeted ad at a time.

🤖 Yapay zeka artık hayatımızın hemen her yerinde.

Is the public becoming more accepting of AI in education or growing more cautious?
Our new article with Ozgehan Ustuk and Zihan Xia, just published in Computers in Human Behavior, explores social media engagement with AI in Education-related TED Talks posted between 2022 and 2025
So, the question then becomes: How will societal visions of the future of AI in education reshape parents, students, teachers, and teacher education? While we understandably focus on what is happening now, we also need to think more deeply and extensively about the future.

Anyone (besides me) needs a distraction from Turkey's highly anticipated yet deeply disappointing #WorldCup campaign?
How about its recent name change from "#Turkey" to "#Türkiye"?
nytimes.com/2026/06/25/world…
Before tonight's #TurkeyVsUSA game, the @nytimes has a good explainer out on how that happened, which has a nice little bonus of drawing on some of my research for the story.
Whether the rebranding has been more successful than its #WorldCup ambitions… I’ll leave that one alone.
